Hey all
I've got a 2006 mazda 3 GT and im thinking of getting new tires b/c my crappy RS-As are wearing down.
no all seasons; something good for daily driving, good in wet weather, good life span.
not running the track.
also important is cost efficiency, nothing too expensive
recommendations?
thanks in advance

it wasnt hard at all. in fact i did exactly that.
if you read ahead that person doesn't want tires for track use, but intends to drag race his/her car.
which i'd assume is different from a daily driver
thanks anyways

Oh ya, that post of mine is from the thread linked to. You should have read it.
For the record that was the only time my SPT's will see the track. They are a street tire and a good one. I have several friends who run both the V12 and GS-D3 on the street and love them.

thanks. i did read it.
seems like you're still taking about a street tire that performs on the track...the tire gets "sticky" when it heats up
i'd assume that would result in faster wear?
again, im in the market for a daily driver type tire
thanks for the input though

Did you not read the post? I daily drive my SPT and am very impressed by them, I have multiple friends who daily both the GS-D3 and the V12 and are quite happy with it.
By their nature, a good summer street tire is also a semi-decent track tire for a lightweight, low powered FWD car like the 3.

i read your post. and my question was whether the high performance (stickiness) of your tires affect the longevity of them.
I didn't question whether you enjoy your tires, or whether your friends enjoy them; which is completely different from the longevity of a tire.

You posted asking for reviews, I gave you personal experiences. Indeed, the SPT's have ~15K on them and are less than half worn.
You also said you wanted summer tires, which means the buggers are going to be sticky, and thus will wear faster than all seasons. If wear is a concern, don't buy summers, get all seasons.

see not That was kind of helpful.
as opposed to telling me how much you and your friends "like" your tires
thanks

If that is the case
recommend these
1) Continental barum
2) Kumho Solus KH16
both are all around great tire for what you ask for, not that expensive and good life span
Both you can find at:

There was a link to a caranddriver tire review article in that thread.
The tires listed are not R-compounds, and so they still perform without heating up (e.g. the S.Drive for example)
Also read the UTQG rating, if you are worried about treadwear.
edit: if you want cost-effective. Keep an eye on for-sale threads and do your research on those tires. Probably the best way for you to save money.

Fuman beat me to it, but to reinforce his comments, there are treadwear ratings you can look at. If you can't determine how that affects you try comparing the treadwear of your rsa's against the tires you are considering.
I ran S.Drives on my GT. Seemed solid although I never tracked it. They were loud though with some noticable drone on the highway

I'm in love with the Yokohama Envigor, great tire, in the class of high performance all season but in the price range of a regular all season, check exclusive wheel & tire on our sponsors section for size and price.
Impressive

they chunk more than RS-As on the track. RS-As have a surprising high heat tolerance.
bridgestone potenza grids, they meet your every requirement except for being an all season. they compare directly to the falken 912's but are better in rain because of the directional tread pattern. i bought a set of these and am waiting to install them after an alignment. you won't find a summer tire with a decent tread wear rating.
