Hey all, was looking into getting a bazooka base tube for my 2010 mz3, would like something bigger or more powerfull but my wife and 6 year old don't agree so much! . Does anyone have experience with these?, I was going to get a self amplified 8" or maybe 10". Do they sound good?, Do they need some sort of crossover to work with the stock deck?

I had one in my first car. It's okay for a cheap stereo build, but it definitely roles around a lot. I am sure you could hunt down one of those perfect fit ones ppl on the forums make, that fit right in the corner where the tire jack is.

Everyone I know who has got one has upgraded later.

Infinity makes a unit called the basslink that is supposed to be a little better.

Subs and amps can give you any range of power vs. sound quality you want. IF you don't want rediculously loud bass but bass that completes the sound experience your looking for there are options for that. Look at Pioneer GM-D Amps at Future shop or MTX amps they offer many different power options and I would only go 10" in your situation.

10" subs won't pound the living daylights out of your car but they will complete the sound atmosphere by giving you bass that wasn't there before.

However the most important thing is don't buy cheap stuff, take it from a guy who has changed his system more times than anyone should and I think there are enough people on here who would agree with me. I'm not saying go and drop thousands of dollars on a sub and amp but don't be afraid to spend a little because you don't want to have to replace it later due to lack of quality.

Thanks for the info everybody. The basslink T looks interesting however the basslinks say they need to be screwed down, and part of my issue is I need something that can be easily disconnected and removed for a trip etc. The more I look @ the self powered compact systems the more I wonder if I should just get a small 10" enclosure and alpine R and a cheap amp?
Does anyone know of any other good budget type systems?,

are these any good?

a little big, but could it just be disconnected somehow and taken out when I wanted to? and maybe mount the amp on top of the box?

If you want a setup that gives you some extra bass, without losing any trunk space, you should look into a Jack stand stealthbox. There is a GB on M3F http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=168647.0 for the enclosure, so you just need to add a 8" sub and an amp. My current project is a custom jackstand stealthbox (trimming around the existing opening to maximize volume), with a Kicker 8" comp and Audiobahn amp.

Just an update to those interested. I installed the 10" bazooka on the weekend, gain is turned to about 5% and it's as much bass as I can handle! Serious boom for the buck. I would suggest this setup to anyone looking to have much more bass than factory but not to "rattle" their way down the road!. Also good for a budget build and installs very "non-intrusivley" to a factory system.
Even the installer was seriously impressed @ the output of the 10" bazooka.

Sorry, just noticed your post. It's $240 @ futureshop and I made them give me the install for free :)
