That's a hard question since there are so many brands and combintations.

Being off season and the huge inventory from the winter past that never was, I'd say the average price would be much lower.

As mentioned, you'd have to specify what type of rims (Steelies or Aluminum) and Tire (x-ICE, Nordfrost...)

Shop around the independant dealers. Steelcase tires, Wheels direct etc... can't remember them all off the top of my head.

You can compare user opinions and tire ratings for many brands at tirerack.com

If you want economical i got a set of Arctic Claw TXi for a very low price. They were great in heavy snow however they did not seem to fair well in icy conditions. In any case these tires will beat any all season tire regardless of brand hands down in any winter condition.
Arctic Claw is an off brand from Cooper Tires I believe.

Just google them and see for yourself.

Would help if you specified what rims they are (I'm assuming steelies) and tires they are, as well as the size. Last winter, I paid about $800 taxes in for a set of OEM 16" alloy rims (used from Standard Auto Wreckers) and a set of Bridgestone Blizzaks, quite satisfied with my winter setup because at least I don't need to be using steelies...

It will all depend on the type of wheels (usually people go for steel), wheel size and tire type and size. Having said that $799 + taxes is reasonable after lookin at what the dealer charged me back in 2006 for 16" steels rims wrapped in 205/55/R16 Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice. It cost me including mounting, balancing and installation: aprox. $1100 tax in. But can't complain as they last me for 3 winter seasons and will go for one more before replacement.

Got my 16" steelies and Michelin x-ice2 at Costco for about $1100 all in. Really great tires but those rims. Really regret getting the steelies after seeing other cool rims I could have gotten. The Michelins are tops though.

If you wait, you could possibly get similar or cheaper from a sponsor come winter group buy time.

If i'm not mistaken he has a 2.3L or 2.5L (hatch GS comes with the bigger motor??) which means he can't fit 15" it will not clear the brakes
