View Full Version : Agincourt Mazda Services - check the dip stick if you do an oil change there

Recently I went for my first service since gotten the new 2010 3, at Agincourt Mazda. Thinking dealership should know their stuff, I drove off after the service was done without thinking anything.

Two weeks later, out of either intuition or curiosity, I decided to open the hood and check the oil. WTF! The oil level was not even reaching the dip stick! I thought I was mistaken the reading, repeated 3 times, i.e. wiped the stick bone dry, poked it in, pulled out and there was nothing! I drove right to back to Agincourt, ask that they check it.
The Service advisor, Robert Lee, was polite in stating did I see any oil on the ground? I responded IT”S A FREAKING NEW CAR MAN. At that point he got a tech to have a look. Some dude came out and measure, nothing! He drove the car in and 15 min later Robert came out saying oh, it was just below the min level, WTF, it was not even reaching! They did checked for leak, and topped it up.

The moral of this story, 1) Agincourt sucks! & 2) always check after oil change, no matter where you get it done.
p.s. yes, I did waited after oil returned to the crankcase, and yes, I was measuring on a level ground.

I always check fluid level and my oil cap before leaving the dealership.

Wow, a dealership would do something like that? Jeez.

I still have a score to settle with them and the new service manager has not responded to me yet. I will ensure to do that next time. Now I have to make sure I have paper towels to wipe the stick.

everytime you put oil in the engine and start the car with a fresh filter oil will circulate through the filter and take away minimum half a liter of oil. being down that little will not affect your engine. Now you are going to say that the dealership should know and have checked. It is very possible the level was checked before the motor was started. and to the original poster, even new cars leak oil don't be fooled as anything can happen.

i fully agree to that but you need paper work to back it up. what good is word of mouth when you want to sell the car? I do 8k oil changes at the dealer and do regular oil changes every 2-3k's in between. Warranty is a little bit of a pain in this situation but if thats all it takes to keep it i dont mind

there is no cut and dry rule when it comes to warranty repair, and agree you need paper, i.e. receipts, to back up that all maintenance services are followed. However, to my understanding, dealers cannot refuse a warranty claim if you can prove the schedule is followed with purchase receipts of filters and motor oil. I think it will be nice to digitally document that you did the services by taking pics or vid of these moments will be even better.

it will not happen if a dealer's service dept follows shop manuals to a T.

IMO, they cut corner to save a few bucks and got caught! shame on Agincourt Mazda...btw, their coffee machine is okay though. So, I might go back for the sake of unlimited free caffeine!

^^ so you're saying a dealership is cheaping out on maybe 1 litre of oil where oil probably cost them $5 a litre? lol.... i don't know what to say.

id rather just pay for the oil change and walk away atleast this way mazda can see that the car has been mazda serviced from day one. I dont know how sophisticated mazda is but my dealership i work at can see all history on the car and which dealer it was at as long as it was a canadian dealer. If the car is a US car we can see if the warranty is still acceptable or not. Makes things so much easier

get over it mistakes happen, we are only human no matter how much to a T things are followed something can always go wrong. And going back to a dealer just for free unlimited caffeine you should be ashamed of yourself. Why in their right minds would they chinse out on 1/2 l to 1l of oil and risk getting a bad customer satisfaction survey in the end? Doesn’t make sense
