I'm pretty sure I saw an old thread about this before stating that its not covered (and I got my car back not too long ago and this wasn't covered from the rust repair). But for those who have/had this issue, how did you fix it/is there much reason to fix it?

By window trim I mean the back doors, the window strip that separate the main window with the small window?

That would be the run channel. I have a small rust spot in that area, and it is being covered through Agincourt Mazda.

really eh....man, my warranty's up in August. Definately won't have time to drop my car off for rust repair again... Hoping for some DIY way lol. Anyone know how much would replacing these fully cost anyway?

I had both my rear doors replaced under warranty for rust on "window trim". The guy at the body shop told me you can fix it;you have to replace the door. I know it sucks.

Also, is it really bad to have rust in this area? Can I just possibly get touchup paint and not worry about it becoming a severly serious issue in the future (i.e., like wheel well rust can spread like ****)?

From what i know you cant fix that. Putting paint wont help. Get Mazda to replace the door thats what I did.

it's not on the bumper to bumper warranty. It's covered under rust perforation warranty. It took me 7 months to get it approved by Mazda but they finally gave me the go ahead. It was a HUGE hassle and had to jump through hoops to get it approved but it finally was. The car is in the shop now getting fixed. My car is an 2005 with 170 K on it.

Yeah my warranty's up in <2 weeks. So pretty much GG to that window trim for me haha.

I guess I'll try to just some touchup paint, grind it down, etc??

For those pretty experienced with DIY repairs or paint in general. Is this a particular spot to be extremely worried about? Like my old post... is it really bad to have rust in this area? Not trying to be a pushover lol, just don't have time as I'm balancing between two jobs + regular life. Since I'm working FT + part time I can never really go to service until they're closed.

Good news, thought I'd post here in case anyone else has the issue in the future. Turns out this part is only covered under 3 years/80000km or something, however the part itself is about $30, with labour you should be able to get it all fixed for ~$120 (takes about an hour).

I'm gonna go tomorrow and talk to them about this and some other rust. I'm at not close to 80k but am months away from 3 yrs.

The part is called rain channel. My car is a 2004. Mazda Canada refused to repair under extended warranty and because it's over 5 years for rust warranty. The dealer charged $140 plus tax. I did it with a small garage for $100. The amount was small I did not want to waste the time to argue with Mazda Canada. The channel is actually very long, which is up to the bottom of the door. There was rust on the part inside the door. So it's better to change the whole part rather than paint on the top part.

Hi guys, I'm sorry to revive this old thread, but I was able to purchase the run channel (x2) from a Mazda dealership for $24 each. I am wondering if anyone knows someone in the Markham area that can install this for a price cheaper than the Mazda dealership? Would I need to go to a mechanic or autobody guy?
