thanks!
The hardest part is getting outside on the perfect cloudless night in an area with minimal light pollution. Seems that almost every time I've tried these shots there's either too many clouds or ambient light from the city ~50km away. Other than that, they're actually pretty simple to do

Gorgeous pic of your car! The one thing I would say though is that you should manually tweak the background contrast so it helps your car stand out a bit more.

I actually like the last one, and the other one (of the sedan) was just my fault. Im by no means a professional, and I do not like to use the auto focus feature on my camera. I am still learning and appreciate the feedback =]

I almost always leave mine on auto-focus, leave everything else manual. Once you learn the focus points it's hard to beat the cameras mind imo.

yea unless you're using old glass, shooting in a pitch-black environment, or just enjoy making things difficult for yourself, I'd stick to using the auto focus. Without a proper ground-glass screen & loupe it's nearly impossible to focus manually, especially on a DX format SLR with it's tiny viewfinder. better off managing the aperture / shutter / ISO / WB yourself while letting the computer handle focusing.
Just my $0.02 of course....opinions may vary

AF is definitely a bless with lenses with huge apertures! So it greatly depends on the lens you are using, also some lenses have fulltime manual too, if you don't like what the AF picked up.

Only pic that really turned out that I am happy with, first time really walking around with my T4i and 50mm. Not sure what the light reflection is, I took my filter off before I started shooting :bang

Its a glare caused by the internal elements of the lens in direct sunlight. Some people loath them, and others use them. In terms of flare, adding more filters tends to make it much worse. I honestly buy lenses now based on their glare quality. Also why do you need a tripod with a 50mm? Its quick glass so unless you are stopping down to like F11 or more it would be fine handheld.
Here is an example of a lens that is old thus has no coatings to reduce glare (Nikkor 50mm F1.2), I love it personally... though not the best use of flare in this shot...

I was trying to do long exposure of the waterfalls, hence the need of the tripod :)

Some of my favorites from a recent interior canoe trip into Algonquin park with some friends. Over the course of 3 days we canoed and portaged from kingscote, to big rock, to byers to scorch, back to byers and then back to kingscote lake via the york river. This route is in the southern most tip of the park and proved to be one of the most beautiful in the park.
All of the night ones were taken with my D700 and nikon 14-24, but I also brought along my brand new canon G15, which has proven itself well so far. I bought a fuji X20 at the same time as the G15, unsure about which one I'd like better. After taking them both out for a couple of days, the winner was obviously the Canon (the 1st one I've ever owned!)...the X20 felt sluggish and I think is entirely over-hyped.
Anyways, enough of a rant....enjoy the photos :D

Definitely! You can see the slanted top of one of the buildings on corner of Elm Drive and Hurontario. Those multi-wing Kaneff Cresent buildings stand out.

not free, but lots of space for the unlimited. I personally don't use it as my home internet doesn't have fast enough upload speeds or bandwidth for 10 terabytes. Though after the first time, it will be incremental, the sizes of the backups will still be significant. I'm using local storage + Time Machine on my Mac, it is automatic, and works when you plug the drive in. No manual labor at all, one time setup. I'm sure there are similar options for windows as well.
If you're just looking to store your pictures, and if they're not in RAW format, Flickr offers 1TB of space and you can set your photos to private.

I have a crap DSLR (old entry level sony a200 that my dad gave me cus he decided he didn't have time for it) with the stock lens. I like to think that between my good paintshop skills and composition it makes up for the poor hardware/mediocre knowledge of photography. I figure starting with bad hardware is the best way to improve your photography skills though. Takes much more work and experimentation to get good results.
As for the softness, mostly photobucket with the exception of the Raven pic which was my fault because I was slightly off with my focus/aperture settings which was a shame because otherwise it turned out amazing.
So yeah, to answer your question the saturation/contrast has been tweaked on about half of those :P

This makes me confident it's a valuable unit considering what I have seen you shoot.
The 565 does have Cannon wireless built into I believe from reading, that is one of the main reasons I want it.
Now to either order online or search locally.
I shoot with a T4i so its ready for wireless flash control.

It doesn't have Canon's wireless triggering capabilities built-in. It does have TTL, and if you buy YN-622 triggers you can then use remote TTL, FEB, groups etc from the camera menu. This is how I use mine, and I specifically bought the 622s because they retain a working hot shoe on top of the camera transmitter so you can put a flash up there too (I had Pixel King triggers before, which do the same stuff but have no working hot shoe on the transmitter). This is why I need a 3rd 565, as my Canon 550EX flash doesn't work in proper TTL mode with the 565s out on remotes (or vice versa).
I bought both from hkyongnuophotoequipment (http://myworld.ebay.com/hkyongnuophotoequipment/&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2754)on eBay, no complaints at all. There is apparently another eBay store that looks like the legit source but is not associated with the manufacturer so make sure you get the right one for proper after-sales support.

Thanks for the info, understanding all the flash terms seems more confusing to me then anything else.
I saw that a lot of users on POTN use the store you mentioned, I will add a set of triggers as well.

There are different types of wireless, radio and optical. The 600EX RT will have radio, meaning line of sight isn't required and way longer range. Wait and see how much they are and then decide? Should be out soon.
You could also get the wireless triggers...but that's just more things to carry around? :S

you should come down to the next photoshoot we do. Would be awesome to have some actual talent on hand compared to my crappy photography skills.
Maybe, its hard to lure me out to those events these days. Maybe I will come and bring some fancy camera gear and let a few members use it with my guidance. Bring your laptops so you can download the files and edit them yourselves. NO RIG SHOTS though!
That is if you can take a break from shooting Aston martins and other high end cars...
I honestly just shoot where the money is. One weekend its a Fiesta the next a Ferrari.

The speed limit through the mountains is 80km/hr the entire way and there are no speed cameras as far as I know. Going 80km/hr around hairpin after hairpin is nothing to complain about lol. You probably wont want to go any faster than that anyway unless you have a deathwish and you don't want to relax and take in the scenery at all.
Really the only thing limiting you is other drivers which is why it is very important not to go during the high season.

Seeing as your issue is camera shake, when considering your shutter speed at the time you expose your scene, take note of your lens focal length. The ‘rule’ of thumb to use with focal length in non image stabilized situations) is to choose a shutter speed with a denominator that is larger than the focal length of the lens. For example if you have a lens that is 50mm 1/60th is probably ok but if you have a 200mm lens you’ll probably want to shoot at around 1/250. Cab0oze

I have had a little time to try and play with it, I am 100% newb to flash photography mind you, so I have been reading a tonne.
I do wish it had HSS, but alas gotta pay for features.
Shot in the living room in broad daylight, used the flash to expose only the little dude (4months now!)

And then one night last week while i was buzzed I made a light box out of whatever I had around, only to make me want to make a proper one.

I always say, one of the best parts of an external flash is simply being able to point it at the ceiling indoors. It's not super creative but for family or party shots it makes a huuuge difference.

Thanks! Keep practicing and post up your shots it's the best way to learn
I saw a friend post photos of frozen bubbles and figured today would be the perfect opportunity for an experiment of my own. I could see these types of shot being really easy and fun if there's no wind, but I did it on our balcony 15floors up and there was a ton of wind. Will need to try again the next time it gets this cold!

Also some photosphere shots taken of the Gales gallery show i curated at York. You should be able do the same shots if you have an android phone running 4.3 jellybean or 4.4 kitkat. You first make a panorama, then apply the tiny planet setting as well. taken with a nexus 4.

That is really awesome!! You should try and fix the distracting graphical glitches though, like the shadow and metal rail thing on the lower left - would be easy to draw in by hand. Then it'd be perfect!

thanks man, glad you like them! More important than a nice camera is a good understanding of light and how it impacts your photography. A good camera is nice if you want to print huge copies of your photos, but for 99.9% of recreational photography, even a simple point & shoot will do. And to answer your question, yes, I get most of the colored lighting from gels over speedlights or flashlights. I own 5 SB600 speedlights with radiopopper RF triggers, but more and more these days I've been heading out with just a headlamp and a single flashlight to capture my images. The speedlights are a lot brighter, but a simple flashlight is lighter and easier to control for anything but portraits, which are still best done with flashes.

I wouldn't say this is "showing off" as per the thread title, but nowhere else to put it. Decided to see what type of panning shots I could manage with a 5D MkII and 100mm prime lens from my balcany. So, wrong camera, lens, location, and crap cars. GO!

Best I could do in heavy crowds with a sometimes cranky toddler either hanging off me or trying to get out of his wagon and run off.

Green glow sticks.
I actually use EL (Electra-Luminescent) wire to create the smoke effect. Glow sticks can create something pretty similar, but they aren't nearly as bright, as flexible or as long (my EL cords are 36" long)
Thanks for the comments glad some of you guys like em :D

Hey Terapr0, do you ever go in to a place where it's overly creepy and you just don't want to go in? How do you keep your imagination from running away when you go through abandon buildings / tunnels? I checked out some of your photos on your website (though cool) ... I would probably do not want to go in.

Figured this goes here. Basically showing how I use Lightroom for 90% of my editing, with Photoshop generally only for aggressive cloning of elements etc.
