Anyone else have problems with the tomtom maps for Canada?, everytime I try to use my gps it tells me to do impossible things like drive off the side of a bridge or go the wrong way on a one way street, or it misnames streets confuses intersections etc. I had a magellan and never had these issues, maybe some lack of detail on backroads but nothing like the tomtom. I'm considering taing it back to CT, as I got it on sale for like $80 last week. Getting frustrating as the gps actually got me lost in Ottawa a couple times this weekend!:complain

I've used mine all over Ontario and never had a problem. I'm using the XL330S.

I was in Ottawa in the spring and thought it worked great.

I've had the Go730 now for approx 8 months and can honestly say I've never been steered wrong (no pun intended). Now as far as telling you to drive off the side of a bridge, maybe your spouse has hacked the unit and trying to get rid of you?? :chuckle

I've had my XL330S for a month or so now and I've used it all over the place with no issues. London, Toronto, York Region, Grand Bend, Windsor, and everywhere inbetween. I don't always agree with the route it's making me take, but that's easily changed by just ignoring what it's telling me to do and making it reprogram the route lol. Did you update to the latest maps?

Well I didn't update to the newest maps, as I feel it's rediculous to have to pay tomtom to update maps on a brand new device! (kinda like buying a new computer running windows xp if you think about it!!) maybe that's the only problem I'm having is my maps are not current/corrected yet. I also can't find ANY poi's around me even when I know they are there (it didn't have the museum of civilization in ottawa listed, Picton beach, or hardly any of the bigger places in kingston?

I will totally agree with you on that, the POI is sometimes just retarded.

How accurate are the TomToms? I find that my Magellan is out by about 20 metres - sometimes I'll pass by a street and 1-2 seconds later the map will show me passing it... it seems to be always in catchup mode :(

Tom Tom is very accurate as it reads off of about 9 satellites at a time. Re-route is automatic, and POI's are great. Used mine through Canada and US, and it has saved me a dozen times.

However, do NOT get the Eclipse AVN2100p (or whatever it is) head unit w/ built in TomTom. I was given the run around when I needed GPS updates and Software glitches fixed. To date, nobody has stepped up except for the shop I bought it from.

I have a TomTom One XL, I don't have any problems with the maps....except when I go up to Gravenhurst. My friends live on a dirt road, the gps see's it as nothing. All it has is their main town.

I don't even know how long I've had it probably over 2 years and the battery doesn't last anyone so I always have to have it plugged it. Not fun.

Which model? I have the cheapest roadmate ($100 version) so I guess I shouldn't be too upset over 20-30 metres.
