I just purchased a 2005 Mazda3, the car came with what looks to be a aftermarket Sirius radio installed. The dealer just claimed it did not work and he cannot provide any help with it (I purchased the vehicle used, it was an off-lease car). I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this style of receiver and possibly how to make it work again or where I would start in order to access the internals of the audio system. When I press the satellite button, nothing happens.

I have attached a photo for reference, the antenna is installed on the driver side dash where the windshield meets the door frame and dash.

is this built into the stock deck? or a completely separate unit attached to the stock deck?
Either way, what you need to know is the Radio ID#. You will need to call Sirius to activate the radio and of course pay them for the service.

Usually on the Sirius or XM units there are a few preview channels that are always free and have some sort of signal. Use those channels to figure out if the unit itself is actually transmitting an audible signal to your car stereo. If so, then all you gotta do is set up the service.

I'm not sure if it is built in, I would have to open up the headunit to check it out. I'm hoping to open it up tonight and figure it out.

Are there any other parts to the Satellite system or is it just an antenna like the one I have there on my dash?

There is a receiver then that connects to the head unit.

I took the headunit out tonight, there was an Auxiliary unit connected to the headunit using the same slot a Satellite connection would use. It had a RCA connection coming out of it, attached to it were another set of RCA plugs, this connected to a small rectangle cube (possibly some sort of filter) that had a snipped wire on the end.

I was able to connect an ipod to the RCA connection (I used a 3mm to RCA connector to make it work) that was coming out of the aux unit.

Would this be the receiver unit you mentioned, or would there likely be another unit possibly buried in the dash somewhere?

The Aux unit seems to be very generic, I have attached a pic of it.

I'm starting to think the previous owner had a generic Sirius tuner and just ripped the little headunit that come with them out of the car but didn't take the antenna.
