Summer, last day of vacation, it’s a mortal sin to sit in the Internet, but can’t wait till September to introduce this baby, which I had finished two weeks ago . All started unexpectedly when I had found a big piece of plywood in my summer house. Earlier, I did some calculations for different speakers with different enclosure design, so, I already knew what I want to build. Main target was to make easier the life of front components and improvement of spectral characteristics on the whole.
Initially, I built 20 liters box able to hold 8” driver. Before gluing all together ,I found, that I couldn’t insert this box. and the size was decreased to 17.3 L. (front chamber 6.4L and rear 10.6L)
Here are some pictures of that work.
Before gluing were set angles and sizes, then pieces were glued by epoxy one by one with return to right size.

Most hard part is the port. Port should be wide to not cause a sniffing, in the same time it increases a necessary length. Port was done with gradually increasing area and covered inside by cloth to decrease air velocity.

Speakers are set isobarically It’s 6,5 inches Visaton drivers, 60rms and 41 hertz resonance frequency. Isobaric, is just because there wasn’t another appropriate single speaker. Don’t look they are small , with proper enclosure, if to take in account the low pass filtering, the bandpass with 6.5” driver will work as closed 8”.

This component is the part of port, was inserted in rear seat.

The hole in the seat I did smaller, then folded edges, drilled and fixed this part by rivets. Don’t have a photo of that process. Here is photo when I set holders for amplifier.

The sub has the maximal performance at 40hertz.
I planned to use 120 watt with 120hz filter, but my amp ,Alpine T220, has the fixed 80Hz filter. So, I tuned it at 160watt at full volume. RCA output I took directly from head unit, but it’s absolutely another story.
Principally, the target was achieved. Now, I have the bass settings at +2 with better sound then was before at +6. Every trip it’s a celebration now.

I don’t call to build an isobaric bandpass, main message is, that the rear seat is a variant for sedan owners. There can be mounted a “free air” speaker or two. Probably, the arm pad should be removed or shortened, because the speaker can be destructed when the arm rest is closed. The grill and transitional plate construction I will leave to your creativity.

That's an interesting set up. I did an arm rest type set up in one of my previous vehicles. It was just sealed with he sub facing through the hole though for show.

Thanks to you all.
This work was alternating with my rest events, I should say ,it’s hard to get a tan and
to think how to route the port. The box itself was done in 1 day. Big part of time was consumed by recalculating possible speakers and different configurations of port for new box volume. Generally, main work was done in one week. The last stroke , replacement of 40A fuse by custom holder for standard fuse was done since two weeks from start .

I envy to you stevenma, I think now I’d have done something differently. These musical things… you never can stop.

As for the sub, it just makes an atmosphere of rich sound, it doesn’t hit hard, but there is no annoyance anymore when you can hear a loud drum and nothing hits into your chest.
Though, yesterday I was driving on the highway and there was playing sound . Every hit of drums was like a shot. Now, I’m looking this sound in my play lists with stereo phones and can’t find.
