Just wondering if the "i" touring wheel well is smaller than the gt. Ive seen people install rx8 18" x 8 rims on their gts however, I don't know if it will fit on my "i" touring model. The wheel well seems smaller, maybe its just because of the 15 inch OEM rims:chuckle

I guess that adding the inch or so evenly distributes on front and back then

I'm thinking of going from 205 to 215 on my next set as well... the wider the better! I'll only be gaining half an inch though :)

Ok so i guess it was the small rims that made it seem smaller

Even the small rims are still the same height
here is an example your car came with 195/65/15 right? and the GT came with 205/50/17
195/65-15 5.0in 12.5in 25.0in 78.5in 807 0.0%
205/50-17 4.0in 12.5in 25.1in 78.8in 804 0.4%
So if you were to run 18's then here would be the size to run
195/65-15 5.0in 12.5in 25.0in 78.5in 807 0.0%
225/40-18 3.5in 12.5in 25.1in 78.8in 804 0.4%

How would 215/45-18 fair out?

That tire size is taller then stock
195/65-15 5.0in 12.5in 25.0in 78.5in 807 0.0%
215/45-18 3.8in 12.8in 25.6in 80.5in 787 2.6%
Stick to 225/40/18

i can save some really good money if i go with 215/45-18. Is the risk associated with adding 15mm (or half an inch) big?

It shouldn't be an issue if you don't plan on lowering your car in the future. Your speedo will be a little off too
