Do the prep work (ie sanding etc) and do lots and lots of thin coats.

****ing sick, I was thinking of doing the same thing on my stock rims, I wanted to use them for winter tires come November and by March save up for a set of nice rims and tires.

However i like the 2010 stock rims

The main concern of mine is the durability of the paint, will it hold up to rim cleaners and the like?

It'll hold up decently, but a proper powdercoat will be much better.

Someone did a "how to" thread here on tm3 (I'd look it up for you but I'm on my bb). Like Steve said, lots of thin coats. It might seem like a lot of work but you'll be sooo much happier with the results. Painting isn't so much about the actual spraying of the paint; its a multi-step process and prep is huge part of painting. As for paint colour, do some tests if you aren't sure about the colour. This step is also well worth the time invested. If you can't find an off the shelf paint you can get a custom paint mixed and loaded into an aerosol can. Lastly, if this all turns out to be too much effort, you could consider powder coating. PC is expensive, but comes with a whole load of benefits.

Good luck! Take some pics and post them up!

I had a hell of a time with the index cards, they kept falling out every time i tried to move the wheel, or the wind picked up plus with their placement, it was near impossible to get the can in the right position to get a good spray in the right placed. It's better to use painters tape and use small 2-4 inch pieces to cover the tire around the rim and some dollar store masking tape to cover the rest of the wheel wall.

Plus when ever i had to take a hose to it to wash off the dust on the wheel, the cards would soak it up and rip easy. Taping in the way to go
