I have purchased a 2010 mazda 3 and dealer is offering a life time warranty rust proof for around 550, is it worth getting the rust proof? Ive seen many threads about rust problem on older Mazda, not sure if the new ones are as bad, thanks

Depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. I dont plan on keeping my M3 2010 for more than 5 years so it wouldn't make sense financially to buy the $550 rust protection and rather get it krowned from one of our sponsors here for $100.

If your planning to keep the car for only 5 years I would not bother with Krown either, especially if you're leasing, if you're financing, then a couple applications may bring up the re-sale value slightly.
To the OP, don't bother with dealer stuff, go with Krown, it's a fantastic product that will protect much better.
When I bought my MZ3, I did not know about Krown, and bought the dealer stuff. The "tar" like stuff underneath is ok, but the "waxy" rustproofing they put on the doors, trunk and engine compartment is just horrible. At first I always got my hands stained by the door, as I was grabbing the door frame, yeah the dealer sprayed the painted door frame as well :loco, also it attracts dust and grime like crazy. When I finally went to Krown, they recommended washing this stuff off, as it is useless on the outside because rust starts inside the door and trunks. So I washed it off, and that was a PITA as well.
Do yourself a favor and go with Krown, the residue that you get for a few days after treatment washes off with no problems and the treatments actually work, my car is over 4 years old with over 100k and no rust so far, nothing even in the regular areas that people report their 3's to have rust.

Krown offers a life time warranty, perforated rust, too on new cars providing you get it sprayed every year. I got my 2010 sprayed last September and it came with all the warranty information. The second spray has to be within 30 days of the anniversary date of the initial spraying

I agree with with the others, yearly applications of Crown or Rust Check,I had a Honda done at the dealer many years ago,the first place it rusted was where they drilled the application holes, the system at the time was called vital.

If the rust starts as surface rust I don't think you can claim on the warranty, If the rust starts from the inside of a panel than yes I think you would have a case for having it repaired under warranty. No rust protection will stop surface rust and I don't even paint protection would either.
