Giga Air Freshner refills

I have a box of refills (the little white things) but no holder for the vent. What can I do with them to make the car smell nice? I refuse to spend $13 for a piece of plastic that clips to my vent!

I was at Nextmod some time back and someone there suggested sticking the stick-shaped fresheners into the air cabin filter.
