View Full Version : Broken Heat Temperature Switch
Hi everyone, I broke my temp. control switch on my heater control panel. The knob is ok but the white plastic broke inside. Do I have to replace the whole panel or can I repair just this switch section. The temp. can be changed from hot to cold if I use a pair of plyers so Its just a matter of the broken plastic. Any help much appreciated.

You can probably replace just the knob... do you have a pic?
What/how is it broken? If it is the "tube" that fits a shaft has split then it is repairable. I have successfully fixed breakage of that sort with superglue and unwaxed dental floss. Glue the broken part back in place and then wrap it tightly with dental floss. Flow some superglue onto the floss and then wrap another layer on, and add a bit more superglue. Two or three layers is sufficient. You need to use unwaxed dental floss so that the superglue can flow into and bond to it.
the end is shattered and can't be repaired. I can't fix it the way you did.

then you need to replace the whole switch panel
note that the GT ones are different from GX/GS.... there's a blue light at the bottom of it to light up the console
Thanks for the help, a new panel is expensive even used. The problem began because the knob was getting hard to turn. Does anyone know where the other end of the cable goes? Does it go to a damper on the heater core or something else? I need to fix it otherwise I'll just break another one. Any help much appreciated.

the metal rods the 1 on the left goes to the heater box assembly to adjust which flaps are opened and closed allowing air to go to the designated areas. the right 1 goes to the hot and cold setting. they are easy to remove but hard to explain. let me check if i still have a heater unit as i may still have one

Not on all GTs though for all years. My '07 GT does not have that blue lighting, but my GF's moms old '06 GT hatch had it.
If anyone knows where the cable goes for the heater to control the temp. hot or cold I would appreciate it. I need to find out whats making the cable hard to move and in turn the knob. Some cars I've had it controls a damper that shuts a valve in the coolant flow by the heater core, because the problem then could be the valve. Any help appreciated.

remove your glove box and lie down upside down looking upwards towards the dash. You will see a cable there going to a white plastic rod sticking out. This rod is connected to the heater box. feel with your hand and you will notice a small tab. Push in on this tab while sliding the cable sideways towards the passenger side of the car. the cable should now be off
Would anyone have a picture or diagram of the heater box and controls? Thank you.
