So i went to Dufferin Mazda to get an oil change today and also had an inspection done and it cost me 100 bucks but one time i went to a Mazda dealership in Hamilton they did the inspection for free without me even asking.
Anyways....so lately my car hasnt been starting when its in Park..it only starts if i shfit it to Neutral. Now it happens all the time and Mazda said theres a corrosion in some wire....i think its called the shifter cable, thats what they wrote on my invoice. They are charging me $210 to fix it. I called Mazda in Hamilton they are charging over $300+.
I have been reading around on this forum, i believe this may be the problem but im not sure.

Can anyone here fix it for me?

If the vehicle is not starting in park there is more than likely corrosion on the shifter pivot. This is where the shifter cable attaches to the transmission and engages into into the proper gear selected. Usually if you take the cable off of the pivot, clean the corrosion and have anti-seize applied it will repair it. There is also an update available for the pivot if I remember. $300.00 seems a little steep to me to repair, but unsure exactly what they are trying to charge you for

The guy said the cable costs 144 bucks and then labor.
Do you know if I'm being ripped off?

Go to Jimmy at Street Performance in Markham. It will be worth the trip. Do a search on this site for Street Performance and you will find it.
Yes, $144.00 for the cable plus dealer labour rates on top = getting ripped off. Take it to Jimmy and see what he says. Not convinced you need the cable replaced...
P.S.- and I deleted your other thread with the same post. Keep it to one thread please...

The guy at mazda said if I don't replace it eventually the wire will break and I won't even be able to turn my car on...
Sorry I'm new to this forum and had nooo idea how to delete the other post.
Who is jimmy? Will he be able to fix it?

This has been a common issue with the 3. I have never seen a cable replaced due to it breaking from this issue. Every time it has been corrosion at the pivot. Just my $.02

hi everyone,
so i went to see Jimmy today and he was so nice and professional. he checked out my car and fixed the problem. Repoman...you are correct it was the pivot. Jimmy put some grease on it and it worked perfectly fine. he was so nice about it, he let me test it out before he gave the car back to me. I think mazda was definately trying to rip me off because im a girl and i know nothing about cars. I'm definately going to see Jimmy for my car probs from now on.

Glad you found Jimmy and that one of the nice mods, helped you with the address. LOL.
Good to hear also that it wasn't the cable and that you saved yourself a fair bit of money too.
Oh, and welcome to TM3. Do a search next time. :)
