Power steering pump?

On reading the threads in the archives on the power steering recall,some listers say that they had a new pump installed,can I assume from this that the Mazda system is like regular power steering but powered by an electric motor?I was under the impression that the system was purely electric?

Why not post this question in one of the existing power steering threads that you read through and also do a search? Closing this one up.
