View Full Version : Paint to use on Rims
So i Decided to go with a black/gun metal look, but i am not sure if the paint i picked is good to use on the rims
Choice 1) Duplicolor Metalcast Smoke (black Chrome)
Choice 2) Duplucolor Textured Metallic Coating
Choice 3) Duplicolor Wheel coating graphite
Choice 4) Duplicolor Wheel coating Black
Of course the proper ground coats/primers will be used plus with the Dupli-Color Wheel Clear Coat paint.

Not all Duplicolor products are compatible with each other so test spray prior!
The Duplicolor Wheel products (colour and clear) are compatible for sure as I've not had any issues.

Go with one of the wheel paints for sure.... or just get them powder-coated!

id say get them powdercoated too if you want it to look really nice. only reason i painted mine is cause they are my winter rims. i just ****ed up my summers so now i have to get new ones and no money for new rims and tires yet so i did what i could for cheap haha. and i actually really like the whole black and blue theme i have going on with my car

I painted my stock rims black and im using them now for winter rims.
wetsanded them all, Used Dupli-color primer (1 coat), then used Krylon Semi-gloss spraypaint. (spray until even)
No word of a lie I've tried a lot of spray paints and I could honestly tell you that Krylon is the best brand :)
Once done I sprayed 2 coats of clearcoat and it turned out decent for winter

was thinking of even doing Gunmetal on the 5 points, and the rest black chrome

BlueJoe, you're ok for winter with your drop? the reason I'm asking is I'm about the same clearance as you and have not tried it on winter yet on this drop.

I have eibach sportline 1.8inch drop springs, and right now I have summer tires that are thinner than my winters, once I pop the winters on theres alot of clearance.
