First off my local dealer said i need two rear suspension parts part #28-500 rear control arm? maybe not really sure what it is to be honest... they are saying 300 bucks plus tax to do the install... well i pmed peter to see if he can get the part or maybe a better than oem part.. and i would like to know if this seems high for install? they said it would take 2.5 hours.. anyway i would love to do the install myself but this is where you guys come in.. not really sure where to start..
second thing is i have this crazy crazy bad intake whistle when i am stepping on the gas... only at certain spots do i get it.. im guessing its the air going over the filter thats making the whistle sound but i would love to know if i can stop this all together.. i have an injen intake with cpe prefilter as well.. i did the search on this one but came up with nothing :(

For the intake whistling, I would double check all the joints/couplings and make sure there is no leaking.

Why does the dealer think you need to replace the control arms?
My intake whistles between 2700 - 3300 rpm.

hahaha ok so im totally not alone here! sweet.. i just think it sounds kinda cheap and with all the kids around my town that have the walmart blow off thing that sounds like a turbo i dont want to be like them lol.. link --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hez8qPzp_1k
anyway as per the rear control arms they said they are broken or the bushings (spelling?) are broken or something... i think it would be a good idea to take it off and post some pictures you could tell me if they are or not but as for getting them off that is where im lost.. lol

I'm fairly certain that those bushings can be replaced. You need to find someone skilled enough to do it. Actually, someone recently did this; I can't remember if it was here on TM3 or on M3F. Try searching and see what comes up. I remember he described the process and the cost of parts; and iirc, he did the work himself.

I had my rear trailing arm bushings replaced. The thing is, Mazda did not have replaceable bushings for the 04-06s, but did for the 07-09s, even though they are identical (just different part numbers).

I had this done too. It's apparently a pretty big job since they have to literally rip apart the entire rear suspension and you need an alignment afterwards too. Not something you want to do yourself. Mine was done under warantee but if it hadn't they said it would likely close $800-1000 to do.

If you have a skilled mechanic / trusted shop, buy the bushings and have them press them in; or by the whole unit and have them swap the parts for you. Otherwise, yes it looks like it's a mazda job which will unfortunately be costly.
