View Full Version : Now make phone calls from Gmail !!

Gmail added a new feature which now allows you to make free calls ( at least for the rest of the year ) to US and Canada.
I called my cell number via Gmail and the number that comes up is a area code 760 (California).
Just wondering if anyone else has tried tried it out.

Yeah I saw this earlier today as well. Called my girlfriend at work to test it out and it worked pretty well. My number showed up as the 760 area code as well.
It says it will be free for 2010, but I imagine a fee will go be put in place sometime in the new year.



I don't see the option on my gmail yet?It's on the side under 'Chat'

have to download the chat plugin, it might auto update, but if it doesn't work try that.

The chat plugin is only useful only if the person whom you want to talk to has to be signed in to Gmail, iGoogle, etc. My OP allows you to call anyone on their lan-line or cell phone.

Yeah, the standalone google talk has been out for awhile now. Today they actually incorporated Google Talk into your gmail, no need to download anything extra.

meh, I thought the plugin had to update since you just can't do voice without updating any kind of plugin. I wanted to try this at work as soon as it came out, but it wouldn't let me unless I got the latest plugin (but it wasn't available because I was on a PPC MAC).
