Hey everyone, what a sweet summer!! Just trying to think ahead and pick up some tires and rims for winter.

I want a set of 4 Blizzak WS70 mounted on steel rims (205/55/16). Best price I could find was $750. Can anyone refer me to some where I may be able to get it cheaper? Also willing to pay CA$H for a great deal!! Let me know.

Cheers

I'd start with the tire sponsors on this forum such as Simply Tire and Exclusive. I'd also suggest you can get a better winter tire than the Blizzaks at a better tire and rim package with the sponsors. The Hankook iPike and Ghislaved Nordfrost are two of them.

As above, you can probably get better prices if you hunt around, especially in a month or so when site sponsors start offering group buy deals.

It is hard to argue with the performance of the Blizzaks though. I have been impressed with the Blizzak WS-50s on Mother's car. They only get scary when snow is deep enough that the bow wave washes all the way over the hood and covers the windshield. Seriously. Some people like to make a big deal of the non-issue that whatever super ice-gripping compound Bridgstone uses is only in the outer 50% of the tread. In practical terms this doesn't matter - at 50% wear a winter winter tire is worn out anyway. Yes, legally, they are good until 2/32" above the wear bars but that factoid doesn't keep you out of the ditch.

I have Gislaved Nordfrost 5s on my Mazda3 and they are excellent, at least equal to the Blizzaks in snow, ice and slush and noticeably grippier and quieter on wet pavement.

I've never driven on them myself but several people I work with have CTC Goodyear Nordics and they must work as well as the Blizzaks or Gislaveds because these folks get to work every day driving the same roads/conditions I do, up and over Blue Mountain from Collingwood to Feversham. Ditto for Cooper, Toyo, Firestone and numerous other brands of winter tire.

My big issue with Blizzaks is the super fast wear and road noise and of course, the price for performance relative to some other tires that do the job equally or better. They're good winter tires, but a little over-hyped.
