Hi guys,

Just had a question as I didn't notice the noise before...but...

There is a high pitch whine when the car is idling (2006 Mazda3 Sport GT auto)...

I don't know if that is the electrohydraulic steering system powering up or not, but it is noticeable at some times - I've turned the steering wheel back and forth by accident in reverse and the noise was a bit louder.

Regardless, when the engine is switched off, the noise continues for another five seconds then turns off.

Is this the sound of the steering rack or...something worse?

Thanks guys - I could be worrying over nothing really. I haven't heard the whine before.

its normal... the steering pump makes a whining noise at idle

I just replaced the fluid in mine with synthetic and it quiet the pump down in half! steering is a lot smoother too... get yours flushed out if you want to cut down that noise and prolong the pump's life!

I'm bringin this thread back :)

Well my RC car I mean my car that sounds like an RC car is making the same issue...... I have no leaks and my fluid is not too low. But I get this RC sound when steering over my CBE (so it's loud)..... I hope to god it's not the electrohydraulic steering system . Just curious if the flush fixed the issue or should I check out the pump and get it replace it.
