I'm debating right now between the two and would like to get some feedback, both have their pro's and con's but I need something to push me to either one...at the moment im sitting 50/50. I haven't been able to get the Iphone 4 yet (I qualify for HUP but its sold out everywhere and I don't want to line up) and the Samsung is slated to come out this month to Rogers so it's almost a matter of me being impatient and which one will I be able to get a hold of first.

Opinions please =)

I am actually in the same situation, My gf just got the samsung through Bell and its effing amazing. The only thing i see being the deturmining factor is the video calling and the LED flash on the Iphone 4. I think i am going to wait for the Galaxy myself though....:D

Hmm..I haven't actually been able to play with the Galaxy yet but i've been doing alot of research, the front facing came and LED dont really matter to me I dont do very much video chatting. I think the one bell has is a slightly different model it is the Vibrant, the only difference is styling while all other specs are the same.

i have an iphone4 and have never dropped a call once! I've held it in every way possible and lost only 2 bars at the most. this is just from my experience and because i have one, you should get one too :)

i actually recieved my bumber two days ago, up until then its been naked. the testing i did was without the bumper and no problems. to CM3, if you do end up choosing an iphone4, you won't have issues.

Captivate FTW!!! Android 2.1 is so much better than Apple OS.
Screen is amazing, processor is wicked fast, ANDROID OS, need i say more.

Be different and get the Galaxy as I am going to get it as soon as Rogers releases it

iPhone 4 hands-down. The Galaxy is a very big plastic feel all around..I hate that. The iPhone 4 is solid aluminum and glass.

My sister has had a caseless iPhone 4 since launch day, never dropped a call. I played with it some, bridged the antenna with my finger only, and was able to make it go from full signal to 2 bars, but it was still crystal clear call quality. If you're frequently in a very low signal area for Rogers, and you hold your phone in such a way that you would end up bridging that bottom left corner, then maybe the iPhone 4 isn't for you. For anybody else? Not a problem. And the 3GS is NOT "the same thing without a front facing camera" - the iPhone 4 has a faster processor, and a VASTLY improved screen, and better call quality to boot (antenna issues aside).

Actually - the Galaxy S has the same glass screen as the iPhone 4... And the Captivate has a metal back, not like the Vibrant that Bell carries which looks very much like a slightly bigger iPhone. :)

Personally? I'm waiting for the Captivate... Though I may have to sign up for the $30/6gb data plan before the end of September if the Captivate doesn't come out before then (you can sign up for the data plan before you get the phone). Bigger screen, screen quality seems to be about equivalent for normal viewing distances from all the comparison reviews I've read. The only difference between the two really is the LED flash (useless) and front facing camera (also useless - Europe has had video calling for like a decade, and NOBODY uses it), and app support - iPhone apps are ALWAYS developed first, but Android is very quickly becoming a must-develop platform as well. And I just like tinkering with new things, so I'm happy to replace my current iPhone 3G with an interesting new operating system.

Ooooh, and also? The bigger screen, with my big fat fingers, makes a big difference. As does the Swype keyboard. Mmmmm, Swype.

Although I'm actually tempted to wait even a bit longer, if the Captivate doesn't come out by the end of September, because apparently the Windows Phone 7 OS is launching mid-October, and it is looking quite impressive. (And as a developer, I've seen how much easier it is to write apps for WP7 as compared to Blackberry and Android... I could see some serious app adoption happening)

Hmm I like those arguements, I totally agree with the only differences would be the camera and led flash which is not important to me at all. After a few days I think it's really just a matter of what I can get my hands on first...my bb is really not cutting it right now.

Not being locked into an app framework (ie the Apple store) with pre-purchased apps makes it a bit of a more balanced decision too. They're both fantastic phones, IMO, I just want a change from Apple personally (currently have an iPhone 3G). Apparently Rogers employees are training on the Captivate now, which means it should be launching in a couple weeks.

The glass on the iPhone4 is rather brittle, my co-worker drop his, and the glass was destroyed. (drop it from a table).
The phone call drop issue is more of an issue on AT&T's network.

HHaving said the above, I am also torn between the two; so subscribing.

The obvious solution to that is, don't drop your several-hundred-dollars-to-replace phone off a table. Or get a case/different phone if you are clumsy. :)

I went for an iphone 4. I had tried the Nexus one when it came out and my friend got one. It's nice but there's a little lack of polish in how the android experience is vs apple at the moment. I am sure that will change.

Primary reason for iphone over the other android phones is still the built. Just like how the MacBook Pro cost more and you can get something with better specs than it for less you can't quite find something with the same attention to details paid in design and manufacturing.

If any of you read this: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/10_38/b4195058423479.htm you'd know that for example that metal band /antennas around the edge of the iphone 4 actually requires very expensive machinery to make.

You can also read more here: http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2010/06/behind-apples-stunningly-crafted-iphone-is-a-patent.html

Pretty much said it all. Sure the OS is no longer top dogs and I sometimes wonder what their plans are for making thing more usable. But still the iphone for IMHO is as good as it gets if you want something that feels nice in your hands.

Note that the Nexus One is raw Android - HTC in particular, but other manufacturers as well, have put their own user interfaces on top of Android and done a VERY good job of it. Others have done a less good job of it (Sony-Ericsson, I'm looking in your direction).

While I like the feel of the iPhone 4, the various Galaxy S devices are getting good marks for hand-feel as well.
