Just wondering if folks round here know the part number for a
Mazda 3 stereo/head unit with the trip computer. (2007 Mazda 3 hatch)
1CD or 6CD I don't really care about, nor do I have the bose.
I have found many units on Ebay but most don't have the trip computer.
However, I have found a few that don't specify but do have model numbers.
Is there a way to look visually or is there a model number that differentiates it
from the head unit without the trip computer ?
The model I am looking to check out is 14798188
Part # is BAP5-66-aro

Ok, went and picked up a new head unit. Guy at wrecking yard says I will have to get it unlocked at a dealership for an additional rape fee. Lovely. Any idea how I might go about doing this on my own ? Is it even possible ? I am pretty sure I have the VIN number the thing came out of. It was not a shady place, and in fact was freakin huge. I guess the first thing I should do is hook it up and see if I indeed have to "unlock" it. My car is a 2007 Hatch, and the unit says it was manufactured in 2006.

Huh? Never heard of unlocking headunits except for GM vehicles. I don't think you'll have a problem.

I think you are thinking of this. I'm not sure if this will work for your HU.

Ok, guy at auto yard was full of crap. Stereo worked fine, no unlocking needed. However, the trip computer did not work until I did the double button trick. Thanks a ton Stevenma188 ! Muchos Kudos. It saved a lot of cursing. Lights on stereo are working again, CD player is working again, I am a happy camper. I paid $155 for the unit which is a bit much, but it was close, and had what I needed, and it has brought me joy, so no worries. It was also better than the $450 Mazda wanted to charge just for the fascia of the stereo and not even a new CD player or radio. HOLY CRAP ARE YOU KIDDING ME ???!!!! What drugs have you been smoking that I would pay that much for a stock deck. How do they sleep at night ?
If anyone has three wire harnesses at the back of their stereo but doesn't have a trip computer function, they should try the trick that Stevenma188 posted. I knew of it but didn't have the specifics and it worked like a charm at getting my trip computer back.
