(and a bit of stupidity on my part :bang)

I went camping over the labour day weekend and everything was going great until we were all packed up and I had to do a garbage run.

Came back to the site and pulled into it (I was backing in all weekend). Got my brother and girlfriend in the car, and reversed out only to hear a terrible, terrible sound. Initial thoughts/ words were "F**k, there goes the bumper....." To my surprise the bumper was fine, but the black plastic shield under the car was ripped from its mounting points; the only points that survived were the front mounting points on the bumper.

What happened was, a rock that I could have normally went over (it was pointy too... haha) caught a lip on the plastic cover and when I reversed with the extra weight it caught. I did what I could at the camp site, and had the plastic piece wedged into place (kinda), and it was atleast not touching the ground.

Long story short, after further inspection, I need a new plastic cover, and also a new passenger side wheel well cover (as the bolt ripped right out)

Haven't checked any scrap yards yet, but if anyone knows of a scrap yard that has mazda3's in it for pickings please let me know. I have been meaning to get a quote from the dealer, but can only imagine it would be pretty damn expensive for such a simple repair.

any ideas?

I've been running my car without the plastic under shield since I got my car. Just be glad you didn't break your oil filter housing though.

thanks to both of you.

All of my other previous cars did not have this undershield, so I think I may go without it until I come across a mazda3 in a scrap yard...

May be stupid, I know...but the price of brand new, from looking at m3f is atleast $155 USD for the undershield and that doesn't include the wheel well cover (obviously)

if anyone spots a scrapped mz3 please PM me!

I got a 2010 but if it's the undershield that I got replaced...
It should be around 50~60 including installation. It wasn't much so i let the delaership install it.

I think she told me.. I was lucky.. cause if the engine shield(?) was gone, it would have cost a lot more

Keep an eye on the threads here... there's usually at least one member with a bent 3 that being written off (e.g. Mazdabetty is right now deciding whether to go for write off or to get the car fixed.........)

but the mounting points on either the shield side or the car side are atleast 3/4 gone, as in, cracked/smashed...I guess I could drill some holes into either the wheelwell cover or the engine cover thing...hmm

going to have to find the passenger wheel well and a shield, going to PM mazdabetty once I find out what she is doing with her 3!

If that doesn't work out, I know I will be getting rid of mine once the splash shield is finally ready from the small GB that was on the boards awhile ago.

Will do. Just sent a PM to find out the status. Hoping it's soon as I want to get a few things done before winter.

As soon as I put my coilovers on I took that thing off. I knew there was no way I was going to make it through a winter with it on.

Go Naked imo.:huge smile
