Need Help

My son is thinking of buying his first car, a 2003 Protege 5.
I have not bought a used car for many years and need information about the steps to take.
This car is also just over an hour from our house which seems to make it harder.
The car has just over 100 K. Has new timing belts/water pump, new brakes(rotors/pads), new plugs, Synthetic oil changed every 5KM.
He is willing to let us have a mechanic look at it, but distance makes that hard. The car is in Markham.
How do I search for liens, etc? What do we look for?

With any sale - be sure to have the seller provide at the very least "Used Vehicle Information Package" This will tell you if the car has been involved in any collisions, has any liens, and how many owners the car has had.

If i recall correctly it's a mandatory document when switching ownership that is a private sale.
