Hey everyone,

So I have been hearing different stories about what rims to use on my 2010 speed 3 so I thought I put the question out to the group. Which ones should I get Alloys rims or steelie rims

Thanks

For what purpose? Summer? Winter?

Drive your Speed3 with steelies all year round. You'll be the coolest kid on the block

Just get what you can afford. Alloys obviously look better and are probably going to be lighter.

Price is not to much of an issue but I'm hearing mixed things like Mazda is saying to use alloys because of the larger disc and calipers and tire shops are saying steels are also good... Just wanted to hear what everyone else thinks about this.

lol I don't see any other benefits for steelies besides the cost

Yep, steelies are cheaper. They also stand up a bit better to winter driving conditions, like if you hit some ice and skid into a curb. Also, if you do bend one they are cheaper to replace. Finally, steelies are less likely to get welded to the hubs by salt corrosion.

Mostly they are cheaper.

I've heard mixed stories about whether 16" steelies will clear the brakes on a Speed3, so it would be best to check that out carefully, maybe test fit a wheel if you can.

If money is not an issue, get alloys! They look better but may get damaged during rough weather and road conditions

I will have steelies myself

if money is not an issue, buy an STi as your winter beater.
haha

Sorry, gonna say something productive:
go with steelies. save the money for mods.

My steelies and Xice X2 already cost quite a bit. Depends how much you are willing to spend. Peter from NextMod said that if you get new alloys, use them for summer because they would be nicer and use the alloys you have on now for winter. Made sense but I already have my steelies and Michelins but if I were to do it again I would do that.

ya if money is not an issue, use your stock for winter, and buy something nice for summer =P

Me personally I would try funding oem 17" rims and add snow tires on that ... I hate the look of steelies

Get steelies and paint them bright pink...or find glow in the dark paint...that would be wicked awesome!!

As tested with Peter and Nextmod today the 16 inch steel rims they have do fit the 2010 Speed 3 although it is a close fit both on the calipers as well as clearance with the shocks.

yup yup we just test fit the Steelies on the speed 3, and it fits no problem =)
