Yes, but only for SBSettings to make it easier to turn on and off the wifi...though playing around with changing the text message sounds is fun too.
only for free apps :huge smile

I've done mine love the ability to ssh and get into the phone to be able customize it. I find the jailbreak only works on the 3.1.3 software because the 4.0 really slows the phone down

I am pretty sure that only applies to the iPhone 3G. iPhone 3Gs and 4 can handle iOS 4.0+ pretty well, even jailbroken.
Mine is not jail broken....could someone tell me what it is??

To run non-Apple code. A lot of rejected apps ends up on Cydia (open sourced repository)
You can:
Customize your themes with widgets and special features like SBSettings (for quick toggling 3G, Wifi, etc), LockInfo (for customizing lock screen with calendar/sms/calls/etc), Activator (for gestures)
Run non-Apple approved apps like Google Voice, Grooveshark, etc...
SSH/FTP
Unlock your phone
Install Apple apps for free (though you should pay for the good apps ;] )

Just visited jailbreakme.com, here's what it says:
Welp. Version too new. You need to downgrade to 4.01/3.2.1 or earlier (which may be impossible, explanation) before you can use this site. More Info >>
There's probably a different way to JB, but I want to keep it safe.

Jailbreakme.com was a one time thing that took advantage of a PDF exploit in Safari. You won't see another jailbreak like it again.
Limera1n is the current Jailbreak that uses the more traditional way of jailbreaking (not on device), but via a PC or a Mac.

Sorry Aris. I should have been clearer. In order to jailbreak your phone you need to either use the programs Blackra1n or Limera1n (there are others). When you start the program blackra1n the software asks you to "make it rain". I was referring to this. A search using Blackra1n or Limera1n or make it rain (with the word jailbreak) gives you several explanations about jailbreaking your iPhone on Youtube. Youtube really does a good job of explaining the process better than I could in a post.
Jailbreaking allows you to download an app called Cydia which allows you change settings in the OS software, download paid apps to try for free, and even download movies, TV shows, songs and ringtones and much more. When jailbreaking one needs to consider the OS the iPhone is running in order to get it right. It may also affect your warranty so some people wait a year before they do this.

Thanks man, did the JB today and loving it!
I was a bit scared at first because I bricked a G1 in the past trying to root it and install new FW but the jailbreak was for dummies.
Cydia <3
