One of the comments suggests this "It is a Siemens Hearing Aid manufactured by Siemens Hearing Instruments. That particular model was first introduced in 1924. If you go to their website and click on history and 1924, you can see a picture of a man holding the same device to his ear. hearing.siemens.com" sounds like the most reasonable answer to me.

A million things are more likely than the possibility that this is some sort of time traveler.

The possibility that she is a schizophrenic cross-dresser who is hard of hearing, that slipped by the guard on the movie set by doing back handsprings while carrying a pumpkin pie is more likely in my books.

Hell- how else is she going to hear the voices in her head without that thing!?
