Anyone ever drive down to warmer parts of the USA during the winter with their winter tires and steelies on?

Keep in mind, winter tires are not intended to be used in double-digit temperatures for prolonged periods.

I ran winters halfway through summer once and noticed that they weren't as effective the following winter

So what do you do if you want to drive down South for a week or so in January?

If your only going for a week then you will be fine leaving them on

I'd leave them on. Can never be too sure what conditions you'll encounter on your way back after all.

South like Florida or Georgia. How far before it gets hot?

Well you can expect snow until at least part way through Virginia, so roughly half the distance.

I'd just keep the winters on to be honest. Not worth the hassle, or having to drive back home in possibly treacherous conditions with sub par tires.

+1 I would rather be running winter tires in summer than summer tire in snow

depends how hot it gets, you'd be suprised how fast your winters will wear down in hot weather.

And you'd be surprised how compromised your grip is once you get back in the snow. I'll take fast wear over less grip ANY day.

It's only for a week, the temps would have to be pretty hot, and he would have to be driving the car pretty hard to wear them in that little time.

Its not like I can drive half way and then switch all my wheels, so I just hope that the roughly 2000k I put on them South of Virginia don't take too much of a toll. (EX: 1600km each way to Atlanta, 800KM each way in heat + 400KM for the week I'm there)

I wouldn't be too worried.
