Love this special investigation by the TheStar.com. It just shows cops are above they law when they **** up, whereas civilians like us would have the book thrown at us.

Yup. I have no love for cops and I bet 99% of this forum doesn't either.

Yeah, I heard about this earlier this week on 680 and nowadays nothing surprises me. It's stuff like this that is always seems to slip through the cracks just because...

In other news, the earth is round and water is wet.
Is anyone really surprised by these findings? Truly?

As for cops, I have great respect for the majority of them. It is a tough job. Treat them with decency and most will reciprocate same. However, there are asshats in every profession and unfortunately, those are the ones that people usually remember and use as a reference point.

Unfortunately the type of person that is drawn to the policing profession is often the one that you really don't want policing you.

This is very true. Half of all the "gangsta" kids in my highschool all went to police school. It's the only type of profession where they can do anything with their lives.

Hahaha! Very true.
The toughest mofo in my class started teaching self-defense to would-be officers and security guards.
The high-school clepto became head of theft prevention at the Bay.
And the nympho became a news-reporter.

Cops do an amazing job most of the time and surprise surprise, they mess up sometimes because they are human! They have one of the hardest jobs in the world and never get appreciated for it. Just imagine trying to live in a world without police officers. 1/2 the people on this forum would have been murdered already and the other 1/2 would have already murdered someone. There would be so much theft and drugs, we may as well all move to 3rd world Africa where policing is truly corrupt and useless. I believe that anyone who says they hate cops are currently involved in illegal activity or have been in the past and have run into problems with cops before because of it. It's simple people, if you don't want problems with the cops then don't do anything illegal. I am completely confident any officer of the law would put their life on the line to help me or anyone else who needed it. I am almost done watching all 22 seasons of Cops I downloaded and it has really opened my eyes to see what kind of crap these fine people have to deal with every day, and it makes me sick to think that people will not respect that.

I have lots of respect for most cops. Imagine getting berated, shouted at and spit on most of your work days by society's lowliest scumbags. I don't know how they hack it.

Yeah and I guess all that only gets you $500 bucks for being stupid.

Let's keep the conversation about how cops are treated "differently" than civilians. Had your MS3 run over an elderly women, you'll be posting in jail right now (assuming they have internet access).

I have respect for most of the police; I don't have any respect for the ones that do stupid sh*t, nor the system that doesn't prosecute them on equal footing with the rest of society. From what I remember of the article, the SIU is quite ineffective both because of bias and structure.

While I respet authority figures and are thankful for their efforts, I absolutely cannot stand the idiots in uniform that choose to abuse their power - aka making me wait in my car while he eats his spaggetti.

^ Yeah but their lives are in danger everyday though? Right?
I mean..some of them might not even pass the 5 year mark -_______-

All cops are human beings, some are good at what they do and some take advantage of it. I'm sure this applies to EVERY job out there.

Hope you are kidding. There is a big difference between being cop where you have been chosen to uphold the law and you know all your actions will be judged by the public, than a job at McDonald's where you got someone's order wrong.

Shooting a mentally challenged man and driving without headlights in a public park running over teens isn't a "screw up" we can just ignore.

Yes we are all humans, but being protected for incompetence on the job is unjust.

Joking or not, downloading whatever you want is still legal in Canada. It's when you try and sell downloaded media to make a profit on it is where it becomes illegal. Burning cds/dvds and giving them away for free is also legal here.

Sorry, I should have put in one of these : ;-)

Nobody I know (besides me of course ) actually pays for software.

Cops I expect are different, simply because it would look bad 'stealing' software when you're supposed to uphold the law (it may be legal, but someone will still look at you funny) - besides if windoze cost $29.99 not $300 or whatever, more people would just buy it instead of d/l.

To be fair, during his "speech", I didn't see anything wrong with what he did. Frankly, while it was a bit over the top, he was being pretty respectful and professional. Yes, the girl wasn't doing much except blowing bubbles, but like he said, what if that got in the eye of one of them trying to do their job? Can she control where they go while she's having fun that close to the police officers? He gave her a stern warning yet she was trying to argue when she should have just let it go. He wasn't yelling, swearing making gestures at the person. He was speaking in a stern voice and giving her a warning. When she's later arrested, we don't see any video of why. Maybe she went against his warning and kept doing it in which case he followed through with his warning. Maybe she did something worse. Who knows. Frankly, if you go to a protest/gathering like that and you do something like that, you are pretty much asking for it in the first place.

I see what she was doing as bad as people with laser pointers who try to shine them at planes/helicopters. You could either damage their eyes or cause them to have an accident all because you were using a simple device in a way that it wasn't designed or in a situation that could cause harm to others. Any punishment you get because of that is your own fault.

As people have stated, most of the time if you are respectful of them, they are respectful to you.

Obviously.

But you just gave the same answer a cop would give after they ****ed up.

I don't get it because I'm not supposed to. "Its just how things work" that these cops walk away untouched. Right?
