anyone have experience creating animated gifs?

I have an Idea to make an animated gif. searched all around and no ones made it (yet) and instead of waiting to see if someone will eventually make the one I want. I figured I'd try to make it myself. Only problem is I haven't got the foggiest idea of how to get started! Any help would be greatly apreciated!
