I love my Mz3 Sport 5MT. I really do, but now that the cold weather is here, the rattling and creaking from the entire dash area is driving me insane! If I wanted a rattling interior, I would have bought a GM or Ford, but this is NOT what I expect from a vehicle made in Japan!
It seems that many other 2010 owners are experiencing similar issues, and it's not just on my GX trim, but also GS and GT.

After taking a closer look at the dash materials and construction, it boggles my mind that Mazda could actually put together such a combination. The hard black plastics around the center vents and display creak even if you lightly push down!
I think Mazda really dropped the ball and hopefully enough of you guys will post your experiences so that maybe a TSB will come of it.
Come on Mazda! *shakes head* :bang

So you get absolutely no noise whatsoever from the dash/windshield eh? I guess you are lucky!
To be honest, I think it's pathetic that the quality is this low. Even my Dad's 2006 Hyundai Sonata (made in Korea) feels and sounds more solid and no creaking and rattling. Maybe this will be my first and last Mazda product.

Agreeded with McGuyver, clearly you have never had a compact before or new car. A Sonta just Like the Six are more expensive for a reason, there bigger with a better comfort level for old people. Have you ever been in a civic before they sounds like the sub frames going to cave in if you hit a bump same goes for every other car in this class, in fact I convinced the 2010 is one of the best in regards to sound proofing in its class, along with many other factors that make it best in class. Quite your yanging!

My sedan had a creak from the windshield by the rearview mirror but their is a tsb or something on that. Never bothered to have it fixed because it went away on its own. Road noise wise both my new and old ones were not the greatest but not something that a little bit of sound deadening cannot help. Other then that my 10's have not had any creaks. My 05 well that one had many creaks but that had a lot to do with A) the parcel shelf-fixed it with foam tape b) the dash seeing as how i had it apart literally 100 times. and of course the famous door speaker bass rattle

Dude, a GS/GT level MZ3 can end up costing just as much as a Sonata etc, so your comment re 'more expensive for a reason' is moot. I had an old 93 Sentra and I got rid of it when it was 17 yrs old (it was still running), and yeah, it had creaking etc, but I expected that after it was 10 yrs old. Implying that all 'new cars' creak/rattle is ridiculous. My 2010 was great when I got it in June, but now..ugggh. I am sure new Civics are not creaking/rattling either. Before buying my MZ3 I test drove many used (3 and 4 years old) Matrix's, and none of them had any rattling.
Dude, this is the 'problems with the mazda3' section. What do you expect posts here to be about! :P :loco

Happens in the cold to all small "economy" cars. Welcome to Canada! It gets a lot better in the summer!

I have both the Sonata and a Mazda 3 GT, my Sonata is only the 4 cyl gls and that cost me almost $32 000 otr, the Mazda 3 fully loaded was only like $27 000. You can't compare the 2 cars, but, I am on your side, the interior of the mazda is Extremely loud. I'll be fully honest, I love my Mazda cuz i think it looks freaking amazing, but were I to crash it, I won't be going with Mazda again....Genesis coupe here I come!!!

Make sure you get the 3.2 because the 2.0 turbo is gutless like a late 90's mustang. I 10k on my Mazda GT sedan and the only time the plastics are creeky in the least bit are when the car is cold. The only thing that is truly louder is the stiffer suspension in which provides that extra great handeling plus as to elabourate on what I previously said, compacts when new are usually louder because nothing is broken in, thats how it goes.

I'm gonna hold out until they take the new 2.0 turbo they are using in the Sonata. Supposedly it's going in the coupe. The new one is ?? 273 hp ??, something in that range.

Thanks to this forum and the complaints of squeeks, rattles I bought my Sonata Limited and Not 3 GT. In the end I could not take the risk as it would drive me crazy! 24,000km so far and not a sqeek or rattle to be found.
All compacts are not the same my old 02 civic with 298k has not squeeks or rattles. Sitting in my driveway if you want to take it for a test drive.

I believe the Mazda 3 is built off a platform that is shared by Volvo (S40) and Ford (Focus) [somebody correct me if i'm wrong]. It just so happens that Mazda is assembled in japan. Probably designed in Europe or US. Not sure.
No shakes or rattles on our Mazda3 that is about 1 month old. however I notice the engine a bit noisy in the morning when it is idling hard when cold. I also noticed that the engine seems to skip a beat every so often when it is cold. Very hard to notice unless you have the radio and climate control off. You have to pay attention the engine revs and feel your seat. It's hard to describe. It's like a slight mis-fire or stumble but quickly goes away and not noticeable otherwise.

I agree... Hyundai has great build quality these days. Good bang for your dollar. I had considered it but not a fan of their aesthetics. Not a big fan of their styling with their entry level cars. They need to acquire their own styling queues instead of stealing them from other manufacturers. As for your civic... good car you can abuse and it will keep on chugging. Honda these days are over-rated and over priced. They've lost their sportiness and innovation in engine technology. IMO their last innovative idea was the S2000 that was introduced in 2000, high output small displacement engine. Was known at the time as the highest output HP/L for a normally aspirated engine for a production vehicle beating out Porsche. That was 10 yrs ago. Honda is now as boring as Toyota. Unfortunately just not as reliable as Toyota.

+1, it's just entry level Mazda, you didn't buy Audi here so I don't know why such a high expectations. One of my co-workers has a Lancer and he said that mz3 has a lot better sound proofing compared to his ride. Good luck trying to listen to radio at highway speeds in lancer!
