what im getting at is should i take a set of rims that are gloss black with a chrome lip and delete the chrome by painting them white to obtain the black rim with a white lip look like below?

Ha that's funny, I wanted to do this about a year ago after seeing that car.
I couldn't find a set of wheels with lips deep enough make it work at the time.

Would anyone recommend one place over the other for this type of work. I have my own body shop guy I trust but I don't think he will want to attemp doing this job.
The only other idea I'm thinking is, cause u never now when u want a change of sight with the rims, plasti dipping the lip.
Thoughts? The only thing I'm worried about is brake dust and not having a gloss with the plasti dip.

White rims with a black lip might make the rims look smaller than they really are. They would still look good though.

I think Quy would be able to do this. On his site, theres a set of speed3 rims in black with a red lip (a member here). I'm pretty sure he would be your best bet.

I shall have to contact him to see what the price would be. Thanks for the info.

its a pretty cool look i like it. especially the red with red car.
i know Quy is closed so i cant ask them specifically so i thought someone here might know. i dont want a complete powder of every rim im looking more for the tape off the centre black and prep then paint the lip then clear coat the whole rim to finish. u no the basic paint job. is that something quy does or for him would it be only redo the whole rims?

I'm pretty sure he could just do the lip. PM Fobio.

how do you guys think it will hold up against the brake dust. would there be anything special i have to do to make sure it stays nice and white or just simple clean and wax?

simple clean and wax should do it. depending on your driving style and how often you drive, wiping them down once a week should be enough.

chrome is really hard to remove, and really hard to get paint to stick to.
I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it's not a quick prep/paint job.
Wheels have some pretty harsh shit to deal with, so powdercoating would be a wiser option, cause it would suck to have to touch up the paint all the time.
Basically it's gonna cost you a lot of time, or money.
With that said, it does look pretty sweet, and fairly unique. I vote do it, just not with paint.
Are there any wheels with a deep dish that would fit under the 3s' fenders?

i do agree that the powder coating would be best. but here is the thiing i have a family friend who is willing to shoot my rims with the white for me... 100 cash for the prep the paint and the clear. what im thinking is even if i keep the rims for say 3 years i can repaint them each year for 100 cash and still spend only 300 in total for three years of a very unique look. and at my rate of going through 1 set of rims a summer lol who knows. but if i get this done, which i am going to do im 99% sure, i can deal with painting them and a few stone chips for 100 a year (if need be and i dunno if i will have to).
just my personal thoughts. and if i keep them waxed and cleaned all the time i dont think it will be a major problem.

I am lowered on prokits with about half a finger gap. It's actually lower then I expected with the prokits. I can see what ur saying tho. By the way I see ur selling the green rims. That's a shame they are so sexy on ur car.
I was starting to think the same thing about the lip. But ya I don't expect it to look as deep dished or as much d the picture but I do think that the rims have a deep enough lip to obtain the look that I desire. I think with my overall completely black and white theme it will go and work very well.
Ill keep this updated with details and pictures as soon I start the process in a little bit.
Keep the opinions coming tho... The more the better.
