making matteres worse, he gave me a second ticket for 65 dollars that says " failure to submit insurance card" when i fully gave him my DRL, INSURANCE and REGISTRATION
FML

I just went to court and chances are, the cop will show up.
You will be offered a guilty plea for a reduction of 1 demerit point and a reduction in fine.
i would argue that you had to switch lanes or hit the guy because of his bad you turn. But now how far did you travel in the restricted lane?
As for the insurance card, there is a difference in not having the card and not having insurance, show you card in court that cover the vehicle for the date in question and they they will throw it out.

Don't pay the tickets because your Insurance will definitely take a hit and honestly... it will stay on your record for a few years which is so no worth it ....
Sounds like it's totally not your fault but you definitely have to fight it...

I'm betting the thread starter is lying to us. The guy doing the U-turn probably signalled properly and gave the thread starter plenty of time to slow down/stop, but rather than waiting for the u-turn to be completed he decided to drive in the closed lane to pass. This is similar to passing someone on the gravel shoulder if you're on a country road.

How can you say you aren't guilty when admit to going into the restricted lane in your OP? Doesn't matter what the reason for you going into it was... You can plead your case and if the judge believes what you are saying and feels compassionate he can reduce the ticket. But I don't see how you can say you 'aint guilty'. If you say you have valid insurance, bring that to court with you and the judge will throw that ticket out.

For the insurance charge, just get an appointment with the prosecutor and they should cancel the ticket for you. I know many who have done this for not having insurance card/expired registration.

As for the lane change...that is questionable without a witness. As for your insurance, how did the cop issueyou a ticket for invalid insurance? Was it expired or?

i got a ticket couple weeks ago for a similar offense in DT TO specifically on Bay St in front of the TD tower....
Right lane was restricted from 7am - 7pm...there was a left turn car at the intersection, so the 2 cars in front of me, myself and the car behind me all changed to the right then changed back after crossing the intersection. Of course there was a cop on foot that pulled all four of us over....once he finished ticketing the car in front of me...he was writing mine up before he even got to my window. The ticket was for $110 but he said it doesn't carry any demerits pts...so is the demerit pts charged on you for the failing to provide insurance??
Sigh...on my way back he was still here and had another couple cars pulled over....i bet it was for the exact same offense....

as for demerit points, i dont know if there are any points, ive never gotten a tickey before, how would i know? the lady at xcopper said it would be about 3 points, so thats what im going with....
as for who ever thinks i have nothing better to do with my time, then come and MAKE up stories about this, you guys are losers and can believe whatever you want. i made this post so i know what options i have, not to be questioned if i mouthed off or had something wrong with my insurance or my story.
What was the actual ticket for?
Also are you sure your ticket for your insurance slip is only $65?
My dad got nailed a few years ago with that ticket cause the slip hd had in his truck was expired and it was $75

I'm not surprised at all by some of the things cops pull nowadays. He probably gave you an extra ticket because he didn't like you. Why you may ask? It doesn't matter. Cops don't need reason or use logic when they are on their power trips....oops I meant "on duty".

im with u on that one... i was told that maybe calling them directly isnt a great idea, but i want justice and i demand to know the reason for that second ticket. those are the 2 biggest things that are pissing me off, one bc i drive that way every day and see cars drive on that lane for kms and i used it for 2 secs to avoid another car, and the fact i got a ticket for soemthing i gave him ( insurance paper )

well i filed a court date...i have nothing to lose by going to court...worst case is i have to pay the fine! The cop told me there was no demerit points...but hearing that your's carried 3 pts, now I'm a little worried that he was just BS'ing me...thinking I would just pay off the ticket if there was no demerit pts!!!
I would try to avoid using x-copper...as many have said already...a reduced fine is considered a win...you can do that yourself!! Often they try to scare you away from trying to fight the ticket...because that means they actually have to spend time on your case. Prosecutors are often more than welcome to negotiate a guilty plea for a reduced fine...
Try calling the ministry to confirm if there will be any demerit pts...

Funny enough, there's actually a ticket out there for "failure to turn into left/right lane to avoid collision", and it's something like $120 with no demerit points. I know this because I got this exact ticket 2 months ago... amazing, you're screwed either way. That sucks for you!!!

+1. Drive inconspicuously, and you'll never attract enough attention to get pulled over. Yes, that means getting rid of obnoxiously blue 'hid' lights, and loud exhausts.
One gets pulled over because they broke some sort of rule--or attracted the attention of the officer (in a negative manner). They don't pull you over to ask for a chocolate bar nor hugs.

Something doesn't make sense....
1. The cop wouldn't give you a "failure to submit insurance card" for nothing. Either he didn't explain it to you properly or you don't have the proper insurance info.
2. I'm not trying to be a douche, I come across these idiots all the time - people who make U-Turns out of nowhere, however, the BEST thing to do in that situation is to simply slow down, not change into the restricted lane. If you say you didn't have enough time to slow down properly, then you're following the driver in front of you too closely because if he were to slam on his brakes, you should have enough time to come to a complete stop regardless.
And in the end of the day, sure you got cut off, but honestly it's not worth the risk of a ticket especially since all it does it get you home 15 seconds earlier.

This is definitely a case where more details are required.
Let's say the car in front has a 2 second lead on the OP. And the guy making the U-turn doesn't signal and does nothing else to indicate that he/she is making a u-turn, and on top of that the person making the u-turn hesitates. And instead of having enough time to hit the brakes and slow down, he is forced to go over to the other lane because if he didn't, he would have rear ended the person making the u-turn.
It is much quicker to turn the steering wheels with your hands than to take your foot off the gas and hit the brakes.
Or what if the person making the U-turn wasn't even looking at the traffic going in the same direction as the OP and just makes the turn FORCING the OP into the other lane?

It doesn't matter if the driver ahead of him doesn't signal or hesitates or slams on the brakes, you always need to make sure you have enough room to stop. If you are "forced" to go over to another lane, then you're not driving properly. You should never rely on swinging onto another lane. What if there was another car in the "other" lane? There are lanes for a reason, you just need to use it properly, it's not rocket science.

If you are "forced" to go into another lane, then you're doing something wrong. I could understand if a driver changed into his lane, but that's not the case.

Not talking about the car in front, I'm talking about the person making a U-turn.
Unless I skipped a post where it was the car in front of him needed to brake and the OP didn't have enough time. I was working under the assumption that the car that pulled the U-turn ended up directly in front of him instead of having a car between them.
If it was the case where the person pulling the U-turn does not end up directly in front of the OP, then yes, I would agree with you.
And if that was the case and I did miss it in the series of posts stating that the person pulling the u-turn did not end up directly in front of the OP, then I do apologize.

Have you driven in the GTA? You know all of us drive like maniacs and we tailgate everyone to death. I swear when I'm on the Gardiner, if I was much as slow down the car behind me will rear end me.
While its ideal to have two car lengths at all times, that's not applicable most times. When someone pulls a U-Turn in front of you, your first reaction is to steer and not to hit/lock your brakes.
When it comes to driving, everyone just talks righteous and throws the book at the OP(s) who start these threads. But in reality, its a ****en jungle out there and the daily commute is an adventure.

See if you read carefully, you'll see that I said I drive the same way but i ACCEPT full responsibility if something were to come of it. The OP isn't accepting responsibility even though it is entirely his own fault. I know, it's a tough pill to swallow. None of us drive like grannies or follow all the rules but if you get penalized for it, suck it up.
