http://www.wernerpatels.com/2010/11/all-souped-up-vehicles-should-be-pulled-off-the-streets/

first of all its 'SUPED' which derives from the word super.

second I KINDA agree. I mean does maintenance like replacing your worn out clutch pedal with a more reliable one count as suped? Or worn out dirty interior? better headlights? What they need to do is have licenses for specific vehicles. Moms that can't drive SUV's but passed their G with a compact car I think are more dangerous.

From the article: "anyone who treats his car or motorbike as a toy (or worse still, a pet) is no longer mentally fit to be operating a motor vehicle"

So if I have a basic Hyundai Accent and only change the oil - but I love the car and it has a name, should I be put in an asylum?

What about those that modify their cars by changing the stock radio out? New floor mats?

Cop: "Is that a new pine scent air freshner son?"
Kid: "Gee sir yes it is, it makes my car smell fresher."
Cop: "Please step out of the car sir, we have to confiscate your vehicle."

:loco :loco :loco :loco :loco

As stupid as I think putting body kits and loud exhausts on a car is, I don't think they should be confiscated. I do however do think police should issue noise tickets to vehicles with exhaust systems that are designed to be noticeably loud. The noise IMO distracts the driver and those around them.

No I'm not. I just don't find loud exhausts that exciting.

"They intentionally drive through people’s front yards or across medians, tearing down small trees and shrubs and destroying the sod that taxpayers have paid for."

I stopped reading there lol..

I loled while reading parts of this.
I especially liked this part.
"In my experience, intelligence does a play a key role in this problem, for it’s almost always people with low IQs and poor education".

This guy really gets personal and loves to stereotype.

The other part that was hilarious was the image of that motorcyclist revving his engine for hours on his driveway in compete ecstasy.

You and me both. That paragraph totally ruined any argument the author may have had.

It is, therefore, not surprising that drivers who exhibit reckless or criminal behaviour all own souped-up vehicles.
It's true...they ALL own souped-up vehicles. What about that redneck who cut me off after tailgating me in his Dodge Ram? What about the business man who whizzed past me at 150 trying to make it to work in his BMW? The soccer-mom who didn't signal while changing lanes in front of me in her Santa Fe? Humans are stupid behind the wheel regardless if a car is "souped" or not. They're just jealous ours are nicer :chuckle

Agreed 100%. Let's start with the Harleys. I don't understand the advertising of a poorly running (read designed) engine.

Let’s stop playing down the seriousness of noise pollution and start fining (and jailing) those who won’t or can’t listen to reason. If that doesn’t work as well as it should, we must take it up a notch by confiscating offensive vehicles and revoking offenders’ driver’s licences for life.

lol ok if we were to do this..how many of us would lose our cars and out licenses?

i absolutely dont agree with this. Point A and Point B garbage. Why do cars have different trims then? Ask the writer what car he drives? I bet he has power options in his car. If it is meant to be just a form of transportation, why invest into luxury options? The writer is a retard

This guy is also stereotypical. Thinking that all people with modded cars drive with that kind of behaviour.

This is like saying without a doubt that Phil loves Chicken :gone

taken from one of the comments...

If you are indeed one of the last few defenders and guardians of common sense, maybe you should pull your head out of your ass and write an article about the dangers of people who are scared to drive, use a cell phone to distract themselves from the fear, and never properly learn to drive their car. THESE people are the real danger to the children of the world.

lmao

Same, read the whole thing. This guy is like the Jack Thompson of the automotive industry. LOL.
(For those that don't know who Jack Thompson is, he's a Florida Lawyer who has been disbarred; he hates video games and went on a 21st century crusade to have them banished from the world (I'm paraphrasing of course))

being an acoustic engineer, i just laugh at his stupid references to noise pollution. he clearly has no understanding what noise is and how it works.

Was reading more on the site...and saw this...

This site reserves the right to edit comments for brevity, foul language, insults, libellous content or obvious errors.

Comments will be posted as quickly as possible, but readers should allow up to 24 hours on weekdays and up to 48 hours on weekends for comments to appear on the site.

but I was most amused by the about page...quoting some amusing bits...

This site is a collection of online essays and editorials. The bias is clearly right-of-centre, but may also be described as “small-c conservative”, “liberal in the classical sense” or, to use a term from Canada’s political past, “liberal-conservative” — “right” as in “not being wrong” or “not being left-wing” (same thing, really).

and really amused by the following...

He was great to work with. (CBC Newsworld)
One of the best blogs in the Calgary area. (Editor-in-chief of a major newspaper)
He should work for the United Nations. (Professor of political science)
Werner Patels for mayor. He hit the nail on the head. (Reader of National Post in response to one of Werner Patels’ columns)
A wonderful writer, and a very gracious man. (Freelance writer and columnist)
One of the “leading bloggers and opinion-makers in the West”. (Garth Turner, former Member of Parliament, July 8, 2008)
That’s one of the most well written and discussed things I’ve seen on these forums for quite some time. (National Post-Full Comment reader in response to one of Werner Patels’ columns)

Except for the last 2nd last one and the 2 in response to a column of his, should he not provide a name to go with those quotes? The 2nd last one does have a name...but the others I would assume should have some identification with it.

Who from CBC Newsworld? Which major newspaper? Professor from which institute? Who's the freelance writer? Hell, should he not list which column the people were agreeing with?

From what I read in one of the other articles (as he linked to it in this article) he seems to have a knack for claiming people said things when they themselves deny it...and in one such comment, he said the following...

Well, apparently not, or you simply deny remembering. My memory is definitely better than yours, because I have one of the best in the world. And as your recent "arguments" in your "helmet story" show, your thinking isn't all that clear or reasonable.

Let's just chalk it up to the immense fear that turned you into a little crybaby a year ago and made you shout down and cut off callers, and reducing you to hysterical babble on the air. I came this close to suggesting to you then that you should seek professional help, rather than a flu shot.

Does that mean that anyone who claims something is instantly right? So if I claim I have 50 million dollars, will I see 50 million dollars in my bank account when I next check?
