I only started watching from round 8, but from what I saw it was a great fight. Pacquaio landed somethin crazy like 500 punches? The fact that Margarito was still steady on his feet by round 12 was a testament to the guy as a fighter. He got some great hits on Pacquaio but never really changed tactics once Pacquaio adapted to boxing a bigger guy. That and that fact that Pacquaio has some ridiculous endurance basically decided the match. Pacquaio's a great guy and even better boxer but I have my doubts as to how politcally involved he should get.

i like this quote

The truth is, it’s easy for ignorant westerners to underestimate and misinterpret the gentle, gracious nature of the Filipino character

has to be the most biased article yet. LOL!
But an excellent article none-the-less.

I'm also glad that they didnt pursue the post-fight drug test on Margara-cheato. Why humiliate him any further?

I heard it was an awesome fight. I tried to stay up as I endured all the bull $h1t undercards... But I fell asleep around 11:30PM. I think I'm the only Filipino who didn't se the fight.

^how can you sleep on a fight night when it's full of Filipinos cheering inside your house/friend's house or wherever you watched it. unless you watched the fight alone without a drink in hand. O.o

:P

Honestly, IMO it wasn't a very entertaining fight. Other than the 8th round, every round was a walk in the park for MP.

By the 6th, it was clear 'Rito wasn't going to win the fight. It was basically a waiting game for Pac to knock him out or go the full 12 and win by decision.

The Mike Jones undercard fight had a great first few rounds. Especially that 2nd round with his 90-punch combo rant LOL!

Great fight Pacman! I knew he would beat him with speed. Endurance was key.

A lot of people say that it wasn't entertaining but I guess it really depends on the purpose you're watching the fight for. If you qualify entertaining as both guys taking an equal beating, then yes, in that sense it wasn't entertaining. But from a technical/boxing perspective, it was quite entertaining. To witness Pacquiao's phenomenal footwork, his pinpoint precision, his speed, his power and ring awareness was crazy. To watch a guy who gave up 4" and 17lbs. dominate, that was entertaining as hell.

Make that 3 of us. :( I'm waiting for it on TMN-HBO.

Watching Pacquiao fight is entertainment on its own. Like someone previously mentioned, his footwork, accuracy and how he evades in defense is commendable.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic that Pacquiaio won. But seriously, his last 4 or 5 fights was like watching someone steal candy from a baby. The delaHoya fight was a joke, Hatton, Clottey, Cotto was a walk in the park, Margarito…seriously? The last time Pacquiao even lost a round was against Marquez. 2-3 years ago

(okay I’ll say it…) I think the critics are right, and team Pac is hand-picking the bouts for easy wins.

Wow, really? Just because his wins were decisive doesn't mean that they weren't worthy opponents. DeLaHoya, ok, fine he was no longer in his prime, but a good fighter nonetheless (just not in this match). Hatton (45-2, 32KOs), Clottey (35-4, 20KOs), Cotto (35-2, 28KOs), Margarito (38-7, 27KOs), all contenders in their weight classes at the time and he varied his fights with contenders in different weight classes. He's never shied away from a fight, the fight and opponent that everyone wants to see, he's done what he could to make it happen and Mayweather continues to run away. To claim that "team Pac is hand-picking the bouts for easy wins" discounts the man's talents and abilities, its either a statement that is made from ignorance or lack of boxing knowledge.

Manny brutalized David Diaz. The Hatton fight was a joke, he was screwed by his trainer, gave him the wrong advice/strategy. Clottey and Cotto were scary, both took a pounding from Manny but they were still standing after 12 rounds. With Clottey he was stuck in a defensive mode all night for some reason and probably frustrated Manny (remember the double hook?). During the Cotto fight I remember Manny telling someone in Manny's corner telling him to finish him but Manny replied something to the effect of "it's difficult, he's tough". With the Margarito fight, I honestly thought he might lose; being taller, heavier and with a longer reach, it didn't look good...on paper; Margarito even hurt Manny in the 6th Round, albeit it with a shot to the kidneys. But as with a lot of things, speed kills or in Manny's case, speed wins.

I'm not taking anything away from Pacquiao as a fighter. In fact, I even said it was too easy for him to win. It IMO is boring to watch him win round after round after round. Its like playing Street Fighter on easy level, after finishing the game on expert
IIRC, he has won the last 42 rounds. With the exception being Hattin taking the 7th or 8th round in the 2008 fight.

But what do I know. I'm not going to google my resources like you to back an argument. And picking fights isn't MP's call, it's the Roach and management team that decides. But as an avid fan, you would know that. Otherwise ego-***cs like Berto would want to fight ppl like Klitschko. But Berto' management would never let him.

Heres another one that you'll never hear a filipino say...
Mayweather isn't running. He's retired - and with a perfect record. Why would he want to tarnish that?

But to keep it on topic, Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter, and his actions in and out of the ring are genuinely humble and sincere, which makes me proud to be a Fil-Canadian.
