Were there any CDs/DvDs that came with it? If so, was it with XP/Vista/Win7?
As for soundcard, they're all onboard, and usually some sort of Realtek sound, I'd recommend getting a soundcard for it.

Hey Rick,
I can fix laptops up. I'm at work right now, but you can PM me and I'll get the message on my phone. I just need to know what type of laptop it is. Are you going to use serato software etc..
Talk to you soon

I work in IT and can tell you that Formatting and re-building a Laptop, - re-installing Windows - is pretty easy, and paying a Shop prob 100 buck or more to do it is a complete waste of your Money
I can send you simple instructions if you like, or, if there is a member close to you that could do it, awesome (I live in London)
Whats the Make/model, and did you get any restore discs with it? or does it have a restore Partition, meaning, when you bootup, do you get a recovery option with a button to hit?

Another way to check for the partition is to check how big the hard drive is, not using My Computer though. Download something like HDTune, and identify the hard drive. Then compare sizes, for example if the hard drive is 80gb and you look at My Computer, the C: is 60gb, it means theres a hidden partition of 10+gb for the OS restore.

Agreed... although, depending on what was done to it prior to you owning, if there was, it could have been deleted.. or whatever. Thank god Manu. are starting to stop the restore partition.. to many, wtf is my restore discs i delete my restore partition calls..

You also have to make sure wether the sticker for xp on the bottom of the laptop (if there is one) is for an OEM install or a retail install as they require different disks. and the soundcard may be an issue on the motherboard that can be a sign of other hardware issues. Plus finding drivers for the ethernet card AFTER you wipe the computer is a bitch as you have no internet access on the computer until you get the drivers.

Hi Rick,
I run a small IT business doing things like this. I see that other members have offered to help you out with some good advice and tips for doing this yourself, but if you are still looking for someone to take care of this for you, please PM me and I'll get some information from you before giving you a quote. I have time this weekend, so I can get it done for you by Monday.

LoL - IT guys are like vultures. Maybe it's because I make peanuts.... :chuckle I'd toss my hat in the ring, but it looks like I was beaten to the punch several times over :)

This is definitely the biggest pain in the ass. Thank Jesus for USB thumb drives.
