Went to Punta Cana in Dominican and LOVED it. We stayed at Sunscape The Beach and it was beyond awesome.

Highly suggest Bahamas, but it all depends on what you're looking for. The gf and I went last year, and really enjoyed ourselves. Very chill environment, no screaming kiddies, things and places to see, and lots of lounging on the beach without vendors hounding you every few minutes.

If you want a hoppin' nightlife and screaming teenagers, go to Mexico. Even Dominican.

I've never been to Cuba, so I can't say much about it - seems like a good median between price and luxury.

Blau Varadero Hotel Cuba.

Loved it. Historic day trip to Old Havana. Varadero is 17 miles of Beach. NO Americans. Those topless europeans!
Walk downtown Varadero with a beer in your hand purchsed for $1.

Another one for Varadero, Cuba. I love how not only the warm weather and beachs, but also the culture. Plus you can't beat the price.

Went to Holguin, Cuba last year. Heading back with the GF again this year. It doesn't have the best food, although I'm under the impression that very few all-inclusives in Cuba have great food. It does have a huge beach with a plethora of beach chairs.

Since the gf already went to D.R. why not try somewhere new? I'm latino so I've had my share on latin countries. Why not try Managua, Nicaragua or San Jose, Costa Rica? Both are wonderful countries and very affordable. If $$ is not so much a problem I've heard great reviews on Bahamas/Hawaii/St. Lucia (on my to do list someday)

I've been to Punta Cana twice now, Stayed at the Rui Bambu in 2003 and stayed at the Catalonia Bavario in 2008...Both were good places.
Might I suggest looking on trip advisor for travelers reviews. It shows the good the bad and the ugly so you can get an idea of what the place is like. They also have a web forum there where you can read ppls questions and answers about things to do places to get etc...

Ocean Blue/Sands beach golf resort, Punta Cana...Mike's coffee shop FTW! It's 25mins from airport, international brands alcohol, casino, bowling alley, 24hrs sports bar, beach walking distance to tourist markets for souvenirs!

Not necessarily in the order of most affordable, but, my pics based on experience:

1) Maui, Kauai, or Big Island (all Hawaii, I'd personally avoid Oahu/Honolulu unless you want to do really touristy things)
2) Bahamas (Nassau)
3) Mexico (Riviera Maya)
4) Dominican (Punta Cana 1st, Puerto Plata/San Jose 2nd)
5) Florida

Dead last... Cuba... I've been two Cuba twice, both times the experience was just blah, bland food, unwelcoming. Once to Varadero, the other time to Cayo Coco. Nice resorts, but just didn't get a good vibe, and the food was bland. Second time, I went with 16 people, 12 people got food poisoning (at different points throughout the week).
