Nice. Only for those times I forget to carry enough cash. I'm not a heavy coffee drinker so this suits me just fine. :)

It will make the wait times a lot longer though.

Having worked at Tim Hortons, this is a disaster. Testing in Manitoba is a joke lol Sister was trying to tell me that she saw debit the other day but was like "Tim Hortons doesnt have debit". Think about it...a line up of 10+ cars...3 people in a row wanting to use debit, one guy cant find his debit card, one guy's declined, and third guy cant remember his pin...it's over right there 5-10 minutes.

Don't think any of those situations are abnormal either.

also have work at a Timmies before.. and at a Service Centre no less, this is going to be fine, if the employee's are efficant.. if not.. then it will be a disaster...

could you imagine tho, spending 1.50 in intract fee for a 1.52 large coffee...

Interac fees are only for using third party ATM's, not for making purchases.

True.... I effing hate stupid ppl like this. Like the other day at Costco some woman was declined like 5 times on her debit, she just kept trying... then she gave them a personal cheque (yes costco takes them).... Ya... cus I am gonna accept a cheque from her after that... like hello... if you have no money move along for the rest of us who do.

I was ok with them accepting Mastercard/Visa since you don't need to sign or use a pin-number, but I don't really agree with debit cards. This will slow down the lines considerably if you have people who take forever to enter their pin (which happens often).

When I worked at Tim Hortons in Calgary, they've always taken debit.

Maybe it was just a western thing... that or I may have just worked in one of the VERY few that took interact (Except I think they don't think they accept debit during huge lines)

If your a regular Tim Hortons customer, you WILL notice a difference...Ontario, specifically Toronto just wait and see.

Not really, having worked at McDonalds, I can tell you the only reason the drive-thru is slow on such nights is because not enough staff are working to accommodate the amount of drunks looking for munchies, and don't forget the amount of munchies each car orders. Oh and did I mention that impaired customers are slow as hell to order? LOL.

I was a manager at mcd's for a while, and holy crap, the amount of food that drunk people order is outrageous. It's like they are supplying for the whole party. Thats why the line is so long.

They need to make sure they have ammunition for the porcelain bowl when the time is right!

As for Timmies...the odd time I've been in a pinch I've just swiped my CC. I used debit at Tims when I was in Calgary for a bit and it was quite convenient and I didn't notice it slowing things down at all. I know interac is working on contact only time chip cards similar to the PayPass system that is in place and works quite well.

Paypass was a good idea, debit... not so much. A better idea would have been an automated kiosk to purchase tims cards via debit, off to the side.

For example, my morning green tea was delayed by 8 minutes because some guy refused to believe that his account was coming up with NSF, and demanded to try at least 4 times, and demanded to speak with a manager...

I just did it this morning... took 5 sec... they have prob the fasten debit machine that I have ever seen at the Timmies close to my house.. almost made me feel like it didn't go through... I don't think will be to bad actually..

that happens less often than the person who walks in with a pocket full of change (most of which seem to be pennies) and takes forever to count it all out

not only that, but, think of the time to get change when you buy a coffee with 20 dollar bill... punching 6 - 8 buttons (depending on your PIN) to getting 18.48 cents back... prob pretty close in time

exactly... debit cards aren't like 15 years ago when people couldn't remember how to use them. If they wanted to really slow things down they would allow personal cheques. I guess now that everything's electronic Tims will have to accurately report their sales for tax purposes lol jk as I am sure they were before. A more likely scenario is another price hike because of the EFT service charges

This is great news! I'm so happy they're rolling out to all of the stores.
I have a feeling that the morning commute crowd will likely still pay with exact change (some locations seem to be better with this).

I know there have been a few in the city that have taken debit for a while. I'm not sure if they were some of the new wendy's/tims locations, or if they were corporate stores. But I can recall once going to a timmies and wanting to use debit (inside) and not being able to. I was surprised, as the one I usually went to always seemed to have it. I guess I just assumed it was everywhere. lol.

I'll tell ya though, I'll be happy to delay the drive-through line an extra couple of seconds with debit when I get told over the intercom "please have your change ready".
I HATE being TOLD to have my change ready, when they just informed me of the total, I'm in the car, and have to roll forward to the window. It probably takes me longer to count out the change in the car than it would to use debit.
-> this is for when I get something that's not the usual large black coffee and I don't know what the total will be ahead of time.

also, black coffee should ALWAYS be double cupped... regardless. thanks to the locations that realize this.

Interac fees are only for using third party ATM's, not for making purchases.

I've been in plenty of stores that have charged me for using debit to pay for something that is under a certain amount. (most of them had a sign posted saying X amount charged for debit purchases under $5)

Either way, there will always be those people who use debit and are incredibly slow with it, or don't have enough cash in their account. And there will always be those whom are really fast with debit. Hopefully it will all balance out and the wait times will not increase.

I checked today when I went to tims and saw the debit pad, seems pretty cool that they now offer this option. Makes it more convenient to those who don't like to carry change.

timmies is probably the worst for customer service ever, they need to make a COFFEE ONLY line. finally they get debit at least.
