If you live in Brampton, you might want to exercise a little extra caution while driving.
The suburb placed dead last in a safe driving study that included 50 communities across Ontario. Belleville ranked number one, with just 2.8 per cent collision claims per 100 cars. Last year’s safest driving community was St. Thomas, which ranked fourth this year.
Brampton recorded 6.1 collision claims per 100 cars.
The bottom four communities in the study, conducted for Allstate Insurance Canada, were all about a 45-minute drive out of Toronto: Ajax was 49th; Maple, 48th and Thornhill, 47th.
Toronto ranked 46th. Pretty bad, but not as poor a standing as some of its suburbs.
Guelph and Georgetown were the two most improved communities with a 19.4 per cent and 12.4 per cent decreases, respectively.
The cities with the greatest increases in collisions were Thomas (33.8 per cent); Bradford (25.6 per cent) and North Bay (10.4).

Surprised Markham isn't among one of the worst.
But they ARE near the bottom of the list still.

Not surprised either. Living in this city I've seen accident scenes at least once a month. Not to mention winter driving... oh man.
side note: 2 accidents in my household happened in Brampton (one of which was a hit-and-run). Go figure.
This explains the high rates I used to get in insurance. Meloche would charge me $5000+ premium and the only reason I can think of for that unusually high rate was my high risk location.

Me too, but if you scroll down they are kind of up there in increases during that period.

I can attest to Belleville being a terrific place to drive. Worked there for over 4 months this summer and lived just Northwest of there all summer (Frankford) and honestly, never had any close calls or really even saw any close calls. Biggest issue was not hitting animals on the country roads at night...hit a couple of small ones but nothing big, thankfully.
Anywhere Toronto/GTA sucks. You think driving it in a compact car is bad? Try driving it in commercial trucks...especially with many tens of thousands of dollars of extremely delicate, irreplaceable cargo.

With all variables remained similar, shouldn't this list kinda show difference in insurance rates from one city to another?
But it doesn't seem to be the case because for me when I moved from London to Markham, my rate skyrocketed?
On the list its 5.3 vs 5.6 claims per 100.

What's funny too is the closer you are to South of Brampton, the cheaper the insurance rates are. I used to live a little South of Mayfield Road on Hwy 10 and when I moved just South of Queen St, my insurance dropped by like $60 a month.

Brampton also has the distinction of the highest failure rates in Ontario when taking tests for licenses at 53%.

i don't care what those stats or results say.
i think brampton is head and shoulders above the asian community (read: chinese) drivers---- markham, scarborough, etc
i assume they get their stats from collision reporting. it's like the asian way to deal everything in cash. less reports = "safer" drivers.

There are other factors other than the number of collisions that dictate insurance rates for an area, including but not limited to: avg. # of thefts in the area, avg. cost to settle claims (which is show to be statistically far lower outside of the GTA - many more fraudulent cases in the GTA, or cases where lawyers get involved and drive up the cost of settlements).

most of the Indian people that i know drive like they are driving back home. no courtesy..everybody just wants to get ahead of you...and they go and do their road test in small cities to get their DL's.i think people should only be allowed to do their road test in the city where they live...
