Hey guys,
I just switched to MT-90 today. Thanks to cta Patrique for supply!!
Guys, if you havent switched yet, DO IT NOW!!
it really feels waaaay smoother shifting, faster upshift and downshift.
Havent tested it out yet in cold morning.

One thing that i love about it- it "unlocked" downshift to 1st gear !!
before i had to go slow (15-20km/h) in order to get it down to 1st.
Now with MT-90 it pops back to 1st at 45km/h !!

Deff worth the money.

Why would you want to downshift to first at 45????

But yes... Redline is good.

There was some improvements in my gear shifting, but it's not as extreme as some people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it's a good purchase for reducing the notchy feeling.

Improved for me as well. It is not magic though....Worht the cash overall for sure. It's a no-brainer.

Also...NEVER downshift into 1st at 45...EVER EVER EVER!!!!

why the hell would u downshift to 1st in 45? Thats at redline or extremely close. Theres a reason why 1st gear is hard to shift into. What you can do normally is to rev match so the rpm goes high enough to shift into 1st but 45 is extremely high

And yes, MT90 is good. Although now after driving it for 60k i noticed its not as smooth as it used to be

good to know. Jimmy's doing mine tomorrow. when you say it reduces the notchy feel, you mean that kind of resistance felt moving the stick between neutral and (any) gear? Or the feel of the stick "clicking" (for lack pf a better term) into gear. Sometimes when it's cold, I almost can't get the stick into gear (particularly reverse). I've had to let the wheels rotate a fraction to help line up the gears (at least that's what it feels like).

noob stick driver here so bear with me

It will be very smooth to shift into gear. Not much resistance. Tomorrow after you do it, you will immediately feel the difference

I just did the switch 2-3 weeks ago. I ran the stock fluid for 63k kms. I did notice smoother shifts but not night and day difference like the OP is describing. After a few drives it actually felt slightly notchier than my first test drive but that could be due to the cold weather.
On -30*C mornings, the shifter is still very stiff and notchy but warms up quickly. Once it's warm, the shifts are quite smooth.

Definitely though I did not find I could suddenly shift into first at any ridiculous speed. I still get alot of resistance if I'm not rev matching and I'm going over 5-10 km/h. Rev match definitely lets me get into any gear and any speed and that part is a touch smoother as well.
If I could get into first at 45km/h, I'd be wondering if my synchros were about to go. This isn't a "lock out" mechanism but rather your synchros begging you for mercy.

lool yeah i probably shouldnt be doin it at 45, i didnt let go of the clutch cuz i knew i would red line it. But before i wasnt able to go to first almost at all, unless my car was slowly rolling.
Im just saying what difference changing to mt-90 did. And yeah i hope my synchros wont blow up lool that would suck.
This morning, wasnt that cold but it was close to -3deg C and it felt way smoother than before. It felt like my old oil warmed up. maybe bit more harder. But when oil heats up its like butter. so nice.

For manual i dont think you ever have to change it. But its good to change it every 100k i think

+1. In the old days, the only time you ever replaced manual transmission fluid was when you replaced the clutch or did significant tranny work. Most mechs will tell you that in modern manual tranny's, it is a smart idea to change the fluid every 100-150K.

Figured I'd revive this topic rather than start a new one which would be >50% the same.

Lots of people use MT-90 for the first-gen MZ3, but what about the second-gen?

From what I can see in the manual (10-4), the second-gen MZ3 takes 75W-80 MTX fluid, which corresponds to Redline MTL rather than Redline MT-90.

At the same time though, I've read on other forums that MTL is "slipperier" and isn't as "nice" of a MTX fluid as MT-90.

Thoughts? Is MT-90 in a gen2 MZ3 okay? Unadvisable?

Cheers. :)

I'd like to hear from Gen 2 MZ3 owners running Redline fluids in their gear box as well. This is on my list of to-do's and I want to make sure I get the correct product.

TIA.

A bit of searching found me this... can this really be true? Synthetic 75W-80 GL-4 MTF?

Reviving this as to not start another related thread - But I was just quoted 14.76 a quart from WildGoose Performance. G16 has similar pricing but is a trek for me - Anyone else able to find it for cheaper?

Thanks

This is pretty much my experience as well. After I changed it I took the car for a drive (I was 2nd owner at 130k, looks like first time changing transmission fluid on the car), and the shifts are definitely a lot better, but nothing not like, OMG JIPM (jizz in pants mode).

Still a little "notchy" if RPMs aren't matched perfect, but I did notice an improvement, so for me, switching to MT-90 was worth it. Now that's its a bit colder, as others have stated, it's not quite as smooth as when the car is warmed up. Don't be disappointed if your first drive after change isn't all that much different. Come spring or while the car is warm you should notice the difference more.

I think it's all in your mind.... I switched mine at 144,000 km (around their) and never noticed any difference from before

I would disagree. I was adamant nothing would feel different, but down shifting is definitely the part that is most improved.

Anyone running any cocktail in there transmission. I'm debating of running mt90 and amsoil synchromesh mix in 3:1.
