2.3L runs rich?

So... I was reading this thread here:

And I do recall black soot on my tail pipe. Always there, comes right back even after cleaning it off. I'm sure people on this forum have already heard about this, or know about it? Is there anything that can be done, if this is true for our 2.3Ls?

I have the same deal with my tail pipe, also when i rev the car or WOT it there is a little bit of black smoke that comes out....not sure why but i would like to learn more.

It's a Mazda thing... most of their cars tend to run more on the rich side stock, it's safer for the engines (sucks for emissions equipment though).

Not sure if this applies, but I to get black soot on my 2010 2.5L. I get more now and not sure if the intake has anything to do with it?

my muffler tip is all black lol. I dont even bother trying to clean it back to make it shiney anymore haha

it runs a little rich in order to keep the cat hot and working good... plus it is to reduce NOx emissions, something the US EPA is OCD about :mad:

Normal. My 09 dodge Dakota truck (supplied by my employer, as I would never buy one of those pieces of turd) is WAY worse than my Mazda. Probably because it's 3.7l is gutless and my foot is always through the floor LOL!
