A recent study found that Toronto is the saddest place to live.

http://www.torontolife.com/daily/informer/the-new-normal/2010/11/25/toronto-is-the-saddest-place-in-canada-csls-study/

Doesn't surprise me one bit...Torontonians are a miserable bunch...

LOL...Life, as is the case of oneself, is what you make it. But sure, go ahead; make vast generalizations and disparage an entire city and it's people based on the attitudes of some....oh the irony..

its not torontonians that are miserable, more the ppl comuting in and out of toronto everyday for work that are miserable.

Yeah, no one ever smiles on the subway, that's what I notice when I'm awake. I'm usually passed out. :D

Well, I'll say this after living in Ottawa for 3 months now.

I've visited the GTA twice since I left in September, and I've noticed in more than just obvious levels that people are more grumpy and in a bad mood in and around Toronto (I am from Mississauga). People in Ottawa are very "chill" and very approachable, unlike in TO, where I find most people have a "why is this guy talking to me?" attitude/expression if you were to approach them randomly and try to strike up a conversation.

In Calgary right now and drove by a gas station on the way from the airport with gas at 92 cents a litre. 5% tax and no frikkin HST.

To add, I believe its the congestion and the travel time that people have to endure during their daily trips to and from work, and also when running their errands.

Yeah, but they actually MAKE the oil in Alberta. It theoretically travels only 300km to get to Calgary vs 3000 km to get to TO. It SHOULD be cheaper there, MUCH cheaper.

Of course gas SHOULD be cheaper in Canada than in the US since we are a net exporter, but it's the other way around...

I can't stand Toronto, every time I visit I get annoyed by something whether it be traffic, excessive amounts of concrete, or the attitudes of people. It bugs me how many people from Toronto have never been outside the city to see what else this country/province has.

lol what an ignorant comment. most of the ppl living in toronto aren't from toronto, half of them aren't even from canada. ppl just hate on toronto because of the shit they see on the news, which usually isn't even half the truth anyways.

I don't know if it's ignorant, maybe it is. I'm just simply stating what I don't like about it. I'm entitled to my opinion, and I don't really care what you think about it.

That's fine, be insulted. I could never live there, and never will. My significant other grew up in Toronto and now lives with me in Peterborough. She swears she could never live there again. I think it's a pretty fair comment for me to say I notice a huge difference in attitudes when I go to Toronto. People just aren't as friendly in general. But then again, maybe that's because Toronto isn't happy lol.

Well, I am from Mississauga which is considerably close to Toronto. Living in Ottawa now, I can tell you that most people living in the GTA live in a bubble.

And I think everyone in Canada is not from Canada originally, so your statement doesn't make sense on that note.

you think ppl in toronto are miserable and mean?! try living in london, or paris, or moscow. living, not visiting cuz those are two different things. the weird thing is that the level of public discontent is directly proportional to the population of the cities. the more the population, the more miserable they are. trust me, toronto is one of the friendliest and pleasant cities i have lived in (drivers aside), mind you that it is also the smallest.

makes perfect sense just because your parents are from another county doesn't mean you are. my dad is canadian but from england, im from canada.
what i mean is half the ppl from toronto aren't born in canada.

+ 1.

My mom went for a visit this past July to Baghdad, and her stories are just something. I was born in Baghdad, and the things she told me make me want to cry when I compare it to how it used to be when I was young.

Such a huge +1... Like you, I've lived in a few larger cities in my time.

This said, I am the first to admit that I really hate what our politicians are doing and have done to this great city and province over the last 8-10 years. Signs of deterioration and age are increasingly prevalent and when you add more and more human congestion and mix it with ever increasing tax hikes, corruption, violent crime and an overall lack of government accountability and more infringement than ever on personal freedoms, it does start to make for a less than happy population in general.

It is a large reason I moved out of the city and into the 905 region about 8 years back. I don't really enjoy coming into Toronto as much as I used to when I was younger. For all the reasons noted.
