View Full Version : Need help looking for a fancy affordable resturant
Basically got a special date coming soon, and am looking for a nice Fancy Restaurant, someplace a little private in the Toronto area, for about $100 for 2 dinners and drinks. Would be nice if it also had dance floor.
Preferably in downtown for activities before and/or after dinner.
Any recommendations?

Take her to the CN Tower revolving restaurant. If she's never been, she'll never forget the views. Make sure you ask and receive a window seat as it is a special occassion. Just tell them you'll wait till one is available on the night. I'd suggest a later reservation, post 8pm, as the earlier crowd is inclined to still have some tourists.

great Idea and they also have a "fixed price" menu choices I think there's a $25, $35, and $45 options which include an appetizer main and desert, which will also leave you a little bit of wiggle room for wine/cocktails.
If you like indian there's a nice little place at bloor and bay or bloor and university, I always forget which one until I"m driving down there.
Or you could just check out the "winterlicious" participants. Go to the winterlicious website and check out some of the participating restaurants

I hate the CN Tower, food is horrible for me.
My suggestions would be...
1.) the Sultan's tent - http://www.thesultanstent.com/ - $39.95 with LIVE belly dancers! your "date" will also be offered to try on the belly dancer's waist belt and try to dance =P (this might not be a good idea cuz some girls will get jealous, they are half nekkid belly dancers shaking their hips lol)
2.) Scaramouche - http://www.scaramoucherestaurant.com/ - very very romantic place <3
3.) Canoe Restaurant - http://www.oliverbonacini.com/Canoe.aspx - Food is AMAZING + Great views
Agreed, the CN tower not really the best place. First of all the prix fix menu is NOT cheap, its like 45 55 and up and everything else is insanely expensive.
I have heard good things about the sultans tent as well.

I haven't been to the CN tower 360 restaurant to eat, but I've walked around in it and it is pretty nice. Can't comment on the food.
I've been to the Sultan's Tent, and its pretty awesome. I am not sure if its date appropriate but it is a nice culturally inspired restaurant, I would say you should consider it if you know your date would appreciate the cultural aspect of it rather than taking it wrong in any way.
If your willing to take a drive 1.5 hours east you can bring her to my restaurant ... Good food and your bill will not even come close to $100

I recommend Sultans tent - truly a different experience.
Not sure if its still around, but Carnivale Brazilian restaurant is pretty cool.
Also - define "Fancy"

Some play a little more classy, more quiet atmosphere, place to dance if possible, essentially a place that would be for "special" occasions and not just for a typical night out
As for food, anything good just no Pork

There is a fantastic little restaurant at King and Parlament. It's on King - about a block east. It's called Weezies - It's small, had a great little menu. Been there a half dozen times and we keep going back. Best Steak Frites in the city. IMHO...

Moxies could be a bit of a gamble though, especially if you're in trouble already, some of the waitress' can be quite eyecatching. If your caught with your eye "caught" even in for more of an apology!
As for the sultans tent the portions weren't the problem, the problem was the taste.

Me and my boyfriend actually went to go eat at CN Tower, we told them we just wanted dessert but we were told to order the whole thing, appetizer, main course, dessert.
So we told them that we just ate, so they told us to just go down the elevator or just go to the decks for the views.
We got a free elevator ride that costs $25 I think?

Just a heads up that dinner at Canoe will easily cost you $150 minimum for two mains and one drink each (no tip included). Was there during the summer and spent at least $250 easily on dinner, wine, dessert and tip. There is no dancing either.
If your willing to go on College St, you can try Bar Italia or Riva Supper club. More in your price range and dancing at both locations.
The Boiler House at the distillery district has great food and a live jazz band.
Joe Mama's on King Street has reasonably priced southern style food and an awesome band and smallish dance floor.
Brant House has a set menu at about $40 per person and dancing right afterwards. Always packed and well dressed crowd.
Good luck!

How about dining in the dark? That way u dont have to look at her lol. I always wanted to try it but never had a chance to yet. O.Noir is one of those places where you can eat in the dark. Its definitely a different experience where your other senses heighten because you cant see
:O You cheated!

No, we were both under stressful times shit happend, she got up set and stopped talking to me (when i needed her the most in the 6 years i was with her) then i got upset at her, said the wrong thing to the wrong girl (wasn't cheating) the GF or now EX found out and shit escalated from there. She took it hard, eventually we tried to work things out then she gave me stupid ultimatums, then threatened me that she has other offers so I walked.
Now looking back dealing with a painful death in the family i was in no way shape or form to deal with these issues, and her getting mad at me because i was away for family just made me so angry i couldn't even think about being around her at that time.
Now many many months later of not talking, i finally decided to talk to her again, to talk and if anything is still left (on my end there is).
She agreed and would like to take her someplace that does show i am serious
^ Yeah..why do guys always look at other girls when they're with their girlfriends?
I mean, why look at a burger..when you have a steak right in front of your eyes.
Why do we look at other girls? it's this as a straight guy we look or see girls, and it's almost an instinct. however we still know at the end of the day the girl we hold is the one we want and many guys like myself, hate doing it by instinct.
Prinsesa here is a tip for you and other girls. Men are idiots and we do shit for no reason sometimes, but in the end we still do care more for our women then any other.
In my case i'm a nice guy and regardless of what i do or say around another woman it's because i'm simply a nice guy but at the end of every day i just wanted my GF, and could never seriously contemplate every being with someone else

If you're looking for a nice place with good food, might I suggest Lee. Unfortunately, no dance floor, however the food IMO is phenomenal, here's the menu to give you an idea of pricing and what you can expect, don't pass up on the Singaporean Style Slaw, its their signature dish and done amazingly:
http://www.susur.com/lee/menus.html
There's also Mildred's Temple Kitchen in Liberty Village. A little bit more pricey, food is good and atmosphere is great.
There's Corner House by Casa Loma, once again a little more pricey but nice and quaint.

What the hell? She couldn't be there for you when you were going dealign with a death in the family? Meh, you should've walked off permanently. But at the same time, we don't know what you said to her..but I don't think nothing could even upset her to the extent that she can't be there for you during that tough time. Even if you told her that you cheated. I mean..it's been 6 years right =/
I will go to O.Noir someday, I heard that the food sucks but it's definitely an experience if you're in a room with rowdy people because the tables are so close to each other. My friend said that some people were even doing the dirty LOL but I don't think O'Noir would be good for this type of talk lol Since people can hear your conversation clearly.

Adobo manak! (I think I spelled that correctly)
Some of these have been mentioned... These are in order of my favourite and there is no regard for cost (or dance floor)...
1. If you want to hit a Susur Lee restaurant go to Madeline's. Hands down it is one of the best places around. And you might actually meet Susur.
2. Amuse Bouche. It is a small place built on the main floor of a house in a semi residential neighbourhood on king west. Food is amazing!
Canoe is okay. I've been there many, many times. You need plenty of time to dine there as they seem to be all about the leasurely dining experience. The food is good, as is the service, but I find the clientele to be pretentious (personal experience; I'm no taking a shot at anyone).
If I had to suggest one place that fits all your needs it's Maro Lounge in Liberty Village.

Wildfire on Yonge St (near midtown). I really enjoyed the ribs last time I went there. It should fit in to your price point and it's a nice place, don't think there is dancing though. No way you'll keep it under $100 at some of those places listed above (ie. CN Tower and Canoe). For what you'd spend at those two places, you could go to Morton's or Ruth's Chris and getter food.

I've personally been to Auberg Du Pommire and North 44. Both Winter/Summer Licious restaurants. I would say most of the more popular "licious" restaurants is a good choice. Food at both is excellent, and the atmosphere gives you the intimate quiet - we can talk type of place. Most people coming to dine at both places as well are usually nicely dressed and out for the same thing... quiet wanna enjoy your date type folks.
It may run a bit more that 100, but still both great options. I'd say Auberg is more intimate/quiet than north 44...

I've heard good things about canoe and scaramouche.
Check out toronto.com for some ideas. I find it's a great place to find restaurants.
Also, I would recommend Toula (located in the Westin Harbour Castle) http://www.toularestaurant.com/. It's expensive, but the view is incredible. If you don't go there for dinner, DEFINITELY go there for some drinks and talk time. And don't be afraid to walk around the place and check out the whole view (it has a 360 of toronto) The area inside where you can see both the islands and the city is fantastic.
Edit: Toula is not a revolving restaurant, but it has a 360 of Toronto (kitchen and restaurant entrance are in the center of the floor). It is also the topmost level of the Westin Harbor Castle.
Also, when are you planning on taking her to dinner?
