Just wanted to see if any of our members if they have bought a set of tires from tire rack i just wanted to know other then the price & shipping did you get any duty charges or other fees
I bought a few times from them.
When checking out they list what you going to pay which includes duty, shipping, brokerage fees.
Certain tires does not have duty... I know BFG their is no duty
All you do is pick a set of tires your interested and put them in your cart then calculate the shipping and then all the duty, brokerage fees, taxes etc will appear at the bottom right with grand total ( it will be detailed list if what you paying)

The price is at bottom right with all the fees.. It's in red... They charge all fees up front... Long time ago the ups would nail you at the door with the extra fees.

Sounds like a nice deal. I'd take it if I were you.
I think you'll only get charged duty on tires that are made outside of North America, correct me if I am wrong.

Yeah only duty on tire made outside of North America - so the Hankooks would get duty.
Tirerack and a few other US tire sites give you the Final to your door price with all the brokerage and duty pre-calculated as mentioned earlier so no surprises when the delivery comes to your home. Also you have a final value when comparing to local shops to see if its worth your price. Also with local shops they generally will "bundle in" the labour which you should also take into consideration.

I have ordered from there like 3 times now. I get it shipped to US Address and then I pick it up and get it installed at a shop close to a mall near Buffalo. Most the tires I have gotten from Tire rack, I have saved about 55% on. If you don't mind the little drive and about an hour of waiting around then I suggest it or you can support Canadian.
Last set of tires I got were Continental ExtremeContact DWS for $455 plus $20 for ship and $80 for install and in Canada, there tires were about $1100 installed.

The holding facility I used is CBIusa. Just follow the instructions on their website on how to label the shipping. Once package arrives at their location, they'll give you a call to inform you of it.

Call Mike at 24 Hour Tire as soon as you can to arrange for installation as he can get quite busy this time of year. Matter of fact, before placing the order of tires, tell him the tires you want and see if he can provide a better price. He mentioned that he has access to better pricing on US brand tires (Continental, Bridgestone, etc).

Second option (depending on whether you can arrange to have him install for you), you can have tires shipped directly to Mike and avoid paying the holding fee that's charged with CBIusa.
PS, remember to order a set of Valeo Ultimate wiper blades (Buy 1 get 1 free promotion) if you're ordering from Tirerack. Can you get me a Aquapel from them as well (semi serious )

This is a very good alternative. My buddy did this and he highly recommends this.

If you dont want to drive down, just pm Peter. Like he said, he will be able to beat the price. So no need to wait for them to come in
Ben they Are actualy very quick to deliver. As for Peter from nextmod he does not always beat their price...

Im assuming that Peter is factoring in the shipping and stuff. So in the end it may be cheaper to purchase from a sponsor. But i dunno lol

With shipping it's often the case local are cheaper by couple bucks now.
Getting it from the US runs the risk of being caught by customs. So some people rather get local. Cause once you are blacklisted you'll get searched when you go through customs every time, a real big pain in the rear.

Not really. I was put on the blacklist because my friend didnt want to declare anything. Real stupid idea.... Anyways, i go to the States about once or twice a month and rarely do they check me. But now i am honest with what I spend.
For the tires, if you do go through with the way baymoe recommended, its cheaper and there is no way they will know. Only thing is you have to drive up there

I went to Buffalo this year for my summer tires and easily saved $300 from what places in Canada were asking. The amount I saved also includes the price for gas to drive down ($30). Made it worth my while.....grabbed two pounds of anchobar wings and did some shopping. Crossed the border with the new tires on and no issues with customs.

One thing I've learned traveling in and out of Canada is not to lie to customs. If they want to find out, they'll have a way of finding out.
The worst that can happen is you get dinged on duty (on stuff made outside the US) and HST if they don't wave you through (I've been dinged for $100 worth of stuff, but was waved through at about $200 worth).
Declare! That's all I have to say.

Yes, I can only help if it's not worth it for you to drive down, I still have to pay shipping and taxes like everyone else
