Hey guys,
Im wondering if any of you installed aftermarket HID kits (H7 bulb) into a regular halogen projector.
What are the results? is the light going everywhere blinding other drivers?
Or does it actually work good and better comparing to halogen.
I want to get one but im not sure about it yet since i have a halogen projector and i dont wanna play with it and change the lens...
I also dont feel like getting pulled over because of the light blinding everyone.
So yeah i just wanna know if anyone has experience with it and how it works.
Im looking at 6000k bulbs.
Thanks

I've had 55 watt HID low beams since summer 08. They are much brighter and whiter than halogens. If they blind other drivers I get no feedback about it. Yes, I get flashed occasionally but no more than I got flashed for having halogen lights 20-25 years ago.

I already tried looking everywhere, i found a lot but no actuall Mazda 3 owners with my kind of projectors (2005 year).
Thats why im asking for your input if you have aftermarket HID's in original halogen projector.
BTW, If i could find every answer using search, i wouldnt had started this post in the first place...

I see, did you ever get pulled over because of those ?
Mainly im just scared of being pulled over and issued a ticket cuz my beams blinding everybody.
gotak, thanks for the info but im looking more for actuall owners experience rather than theory. I know every projector headlight is different thats why im targeting 2005 + mazda 3 owners.
Thanks

Problem is not only is every projector different. Bulbs that fits the same socket from different kits are also different. So what works for one person might not work for you. Depending on the shape etc of the bulb you are using.
I doubt you'll get pulled over considering the number of idiots with crazy blinding HIDs out and about.
The bigger concern should be will it reduce your ability to see clearly. If you put HID in the projectors and need to adjust them to avoid too much glare the result could be limited visibility for yourself. HIDs look brighter but if they are only lighting up the immediate front of your car they actually can contribute to night blindness by making your eyes adjust to the bright foreground, limiting your ability to see further away where it's dark.

I've never had an issue with the Police in my 2004 with HIDS.

I've had 35w 5000k HIDs in my Mazda 3 for about 6 months now and I haven't had any issues with the police. I can only think of a couple oncoming drivers who have flashed me so far and that's only been when I was driving out in the country.

Same here - usually Dodge 4X4 pickups.
Police have not been a problem.

I'd love to get HID's with the cut off, and possible manual adjuster, my STI had it and loved the feature

Just go for it. The halogen projectors are not quite as good as the OEM HID projectors, but they are 90% as good IMO. The cutoff is still quite good as is the beam pattern. You won't be blinding people any more than some of the very bright OEM setups on other cars.
I have 8k HIDs installed in mine btw.

I had an H7 35watt 6000k aftermarket HID for my projectors. Recently installed a 55watt aftermarket ballast to replace the 35watt ballast, much brighter. Used the old 35watt ballast and purchased new HID 9005 bulbs for my high beams. I just re-aimed the headlights so as not to blind on-coming traffic, and, never had any problems with cops.

06 GT Sport... did mine 35w 6k, it was night a day difference and LOVE it, because they have a cut-off point, there's no need to worry about blinding anyone. the best way I can describe it was the halogens were OK, but the HIDs completely filled the beam pattern with light. took me a while to get used to being able to see everything :chuckle

I run 8k HIDs in my car, not sure how many watts but occasionally I notice people infront of me will shift over to let me pass them if I follow them closely. I actually enjoy that. The light output is good and while I like the 8k color temperature, I think my fogs (when I get around to doing them) will be 6k as 6k looks a bit cleaner.
I've got an 06 in black and I've never had a problem with cops in regards to them.

ok i got my kit last night, installed in about 30 min.
Where it took me like 25 min for first light bulb and 5 min for other one soonest i figured out how to lock that stupid spring that holds bulbs... stupid design lol .
Anyways, had to apply some electrical tape on other side of the bulb because it wasnt tight enough without the adapter for halogen bulbs. well i figured it out and it fits pretty tight now.
But man... what a difference!@!!!!
took it for a spin on the country roads... WOW its like almost my high beams, i can see everything.
It was deffinitelly worth it!!
oh btw i got 33W set up with 6000K bulbs. looks pretty nice, a little hint of blue :)

Huh? When I went from my old car with halogens to the MS3's factory bi-xeons there was no change in how much brighter road signs are, actually above the cut off things were darker cause the cut is so sharp. Are you sure you aren't splashing light all over the place?
dj_adamix
12-23-2010, 11:28 AM
No, i can clearly see the cut off line and no glare above it, maybe minimal.
When i pulled out of my drive way onto the street there was a cop car passing by, didnt pull me over or nothing :P so its all good.
Beam pattern is the same as halogen but much brighter, better visibility. so for example with halogen, is most bright in front of your car and then beam kind of dissipears as you look more forward, with hid's light is more even on the whole beam pattern so everything is light up more. before my high beams light up the whole road in front of me including side of the road. now when i turn them on the middle of the road is just brighter a bit further ahead. but everything else is already lit up with my hids.
its sick...

I have noticed that on both my car with 6K 35 watt HID and other cars with OEM HID.

lol uh no. ive driven infront of my own car, no glare. of course it will illuminate much brighter when you have brighter whiter lights, thats how any reflective sign works the brighter the light the brighter it lights up.

x2 f'n stupidest thingI've ever seen!! like I mentioned in my thread after install... I'd hate to have to change a bulb in -10 windy weather
thats one of the first things i noticed when i got my HIDs the sighs reflect much brighter....
the exactly the first thing I noticed too. road signs and fresh road lines jump out much better now! and no, this mod does NOT splash light all over the place like those Honduh kids with reflector housings

x a million... kind of like I said, the HIDs 'fill' the entire beam pattern where the halogens die out :thumbsup
