View Full Version : Can I fit smaller winter tires on my 2007 Mazda3 GT Sedan?

Howdy folks...

I need some expertise/opinions. I drive a 2007 Mazda3 GT - great car but the tires it comes with sucks. I need to invest in a good pair of winter tires so I have a question.

My tire size is 20550R17. Can I install smaller winter tires so that I can drive safely? If yes, what's the smallest size I can go for? Obviously, my goal is to save $$$.

I have had to work from home for the past 3 days as my tires are not good to drive in this weather and the last thing I want is an accident which is going to sky rocket my already high insurance (different story).

Anyways, any help would be tremendously appreciated.

you can go down to 16" rims, probably your best option. 205/55/16 is the most common. but the GT cannot go smaller than 16" rims because they won't clear the calipers.

The GS/GT models have larger calipers so 16" is the smallest for the rims to clear. As mentioned, 205/55/r16 is the most common size for winter tires and steelies.

my summers are 215/45/17 my winters are a little oversized 205/60/16

205/55/16 is the size you need... It will be the same height as your stock 205/50/17

please buy a full set of winters and not just 2...........

The GS/GT models have larger calipers so 16" is the smallest for the rims to clear. As mentioned, 205/55/r16 is the most common size for winter tires and steelies.


GS can rock 15's.. cuz im on them.. only GT has 16" for 2007
