Hey guys,

I'm looking for some advice on whether or not to repair a Sony Vaio laptop screen.
The laptop is a Sony Vaio EA Series that totaled to $1396 back in August, it was bought online.

I just brought the laptop into SonyStore for them to examine and they claim it's a cracked screen internally, but to the naked eye you can't see a crack? How can they be so sure it's physical damage?

They estimated that to replace it would cost $600 for the panel + labour charges...... Are there other places I can get this fixed for cheaper?

Is it even worth it to get it fixed or should I just get a new one? A brand new one costs $1189 today.

Thanks,

Changing out an LCD isn't too hard. You just need to know what you are doing. I'm sure there are some people on here that are computer technicians that can help you out with labour costs.

It's all about finding a replacement LCD and that's the bigger problem.

Have you looked online for a replacement?

How does the screen look like? Have a picture or more details?

Replacing a LCD screen can be pretty difficult, since some models you have to take most of the laptop apart, not just the screen bezel. It also will void warranties, so that may be of concern.

That is definitely a big thing to worry about.

That is definitely a big thing to worry about.

Indeed, especially since its the LCD which, besides the motherboard, is a part that can not often be inter-changable, so if either or fails in a laptop, its usually time to get a new laptop, as its not worth the $$$ replacing it. With that being said, perhaps you can sell it AS-IS for, say $900~ (which IMO, might be a bit high, not sure of the EA's specs), and grab something else.

Ive replaced laptop screens before, they can be tedious, but easy if you take your time, the hardest part I could was trying to get the trim rings off without cracking them.

Youtube might be your bff for this Youtuber (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+replace+sony+vaio+scre en&aq=0)

Look for a replacement screen on eBay.

Edit: including screen and labour
