My brother got a parking ticket at UTSC about 2 years ago (the parking machine was busted and he was late for something so he didn't go finding another machine to buy the ticket at). He went to the court house to challenge it. Mid november he got a letter saying his court date is scheduled for Feb 2011. He is now in Oshawa and doesn't want to bother traveling to the downtown toronto area for this.

I am wondering if he simply pays the $30 or whatever the ticket is, does he have to notify the prosecutor that he isn't going to attend? What is the procedure of doing this? Or is it as simple as paying the ticket online and thats it?

I think he can pay it n stuff.

BTW...2 years ago? and he JUST got a court date? I think you can ask for it to be thrown out as it's taken too long. I've read some where that if it is past a certain amount of time, when you go to court they have to throw it out under some law.

yeah i think its chapter 11b but you still have to go to court for that which he doesn't want to do since it'll mean losing a days worth of pay over ~$30.

So if he were to pay it online... that would be the end of it? they won't charge him court fees or whatever for not showing up?

if he cancels early enough 15 days or something he can not go I believe and just pay it.

I got a ticket in toronto once, but it was actually CHEAPER than the event parking that was offered. So I paid the ticket happily :)
