View Full Version : Woke up this morning to a nice little present....
So I wake up and drive into work as usual...my co-worker comes up to me and say's "Hey what happened to your car?" this is what I find....

So based on process of elimination this probably happend this morning between 2am and 7am in my driveway I was parked at the end of my driveway, I didn't even notice until I got into work....I called my insurance and will be seeing what the adjustor says. RBC said I should be ok but i'm always skeptical with insurance companies...what do you think I should do? I'm going to file a report this afternoon with the police. I really don't want this to jack up my rates...
There are no witnesses, nothing just my word....I live in a culdesac so there are only so many cars around and I will be patrolling to look for any damage on the other cars, bahh what a great start to the holiday....

Yikes, sorry to hear. Almost looks like a snowplow hit it with the corner of the plow and just tore into it.
Sucks man.. Hope fully you find out who did

Watch the neighbours now and see if anyone acts funny like won't look you in the eye when you are out. Hit and runs are everywhere now a days.
Definitely going to try find this person...this car is bad luck, this is the 3rd claim on my car within 2 and a half years and all of them are 0 fault + 1 go train hit and run where some dude pulled out and destroyed the side of my car...do you guys think this will effect my rate even if they determine it is not my fault?

That's kind of what I'm thinking also. That or the garbage/recycling trucks. The damage is pretty high up, but also significant lower down. A large vehicle did this and not some little car.

Definitely a larger vehicle. Took out a chunk off the top portion and chewed the bumper quite a bit. From the scrape, the culprit hit it from the left, then realized what happened and put it back into drive and drove off. If it was a plow i'd imagine it would have kept going and mangled more of the right side of the car.
This time of the year is always a curse.

Wow, sorry to hear this! I hope you find out who did this, that's horrible that they would just run off like that.

Did you find pieces of ur bumper in your driveway ??? see if you can see other cars paint on them, that would give you a better idea what to look for.

That sucks! :(
Could it have been someone at a neighbours across the street turning around??

I think it most likely was someone random... if it was your neighbours they wouldve pulled in and turned around in their own driveway. so its either someone random who got lost and decided to turn around by pulling into the driveway or snow plau, or garbage truck ???
From pics you cant see any paint marks from the vehicle, that suggests bigger metal bumper with no paint hit u, probably a truck ?? i would sugest calling your local snow plau serveice, have them inspect their trucks and look for damage. even garbage trucks.
It had to be some heavy duty truck since it didnt leave any paint marks on it.

Also looks like maybe a 4x4 with a salter on the back could have done it...
Shitty to see, hope everything gets fixed up well for you.
I think it was the co-worker that hit you! Process of elimination!
Seriously though, that really sucks!

the hit to the hatch looks like it was punched by the Incredible Hulk. I would look for any 8foot Green guy with fists larger than a basketball

Is there a driveway directly across the street from you, that seems to be missing a car that is typically parked there?
Im leaning towards some idiot backed out, who doesn't understand the idea of 'manning-up' and taking responsibilities for their actions.

Exactly what I was thinking.
nope there isn't anything infront of my drive way, my house is pretty much at the apex of the curve and nothing infront...I just did a walk around and looked at my neighbors and it doesn't look like they have any damage. I also picked up a piece of my bumper on the ground but couldn't find any colour on it =(...I think i'm pretty much SOL

It may very much be a neighbor in your area. I hope your not SOL cause I'm also skeptical when it comes to insurance companies...and with insurance fraud on the rise hopefully you don't get nailed for something which isn't your fault.
I had a similar incident happen to me at the beginning of this year. A neighbor backed right into my car and tried covering it up by reversing back into his driveway (not showing the bumper side that hit me). Fortunately, he man'd up but when the police arrived he tried blaming me for having my car parked on the road....long story short he got screwed and I don't talk to them to this day.

If you don't see any transference of colour than I still think you were nailed by a city vehicle and that the parts that hit your car were made of unpainted steel like you would find on a snowplow, salter or front/rear bumper areas of garbage/recycling trucks. Were any of these vehicles in the area recently? I'd phone the city. I can't see how the damage to your vehicle was caused by any regular car or even an SUV. It is cetainly a large and high up vehicle. At minimim, it would have to be a large pick-up.
Edit: Also, the damage done is pretty significant and deep. That means two things. Either the vehicle hit you at a decent speed or whatever hit you, had a great deal of mass and weight behind it. The latter is most likely considering this is a court and you were parked at the edge of your driveway. Most people don't reverse at high speeds to change direction and would not have caused that kind of damage, which is why I don't think it is a neighbour or some random stranger in a vehicle.

Yeah, call the city and have them inspect their trucks. they should have a log and see which trucks were in your area at that time. But there might be a problem locating any damage on the truck since is a heavy duty metal bumper it might not be bent. its like hitting en egg with a hammer. you wont see any damage on the hammer it self lol. but you never know, they most likely took some of your paint with them lol. but most likely its been cleaned off right away to cover up any damage... Good luck tho!!

that sucks man. my dad got rear ended a couple weeks ago in a parking lot and the guy who hit him drove off. new rear bumper and a little body work on the rear quarter panel, luckily insurance paid for it with only 500 deductable and his rates didn't go up. he also drives a 04 mazda3 sport gt.

CM3, call the town / city and find out if there were any service vehicles in your area that night (garbage, snow plow, salt truck, etc). Was there any snow on your street? maybe it was some dumb kids trying to do slides and stuff with a truck or something. If there's anyone in your neighbourhood with a pickup truck that has a plow on the front an/or a salter on the back, have a look at their car, looks like it could have been from one of them too.
That really sucks, especially right before Christmas. Hope everything gets sorted out okay, and no insurance hikes.
